I loved Knight Rider as a kid, but always thought it would have been cooler if they had used some super exotic instead of that TA. I mean, KITT was supposed to be the pinnacle of technology. Still, I really enjoyed that show.
In any case, a Mustang KITT would be cool...

Corvette Z06 would make a nice KITT, they can't use the Camaro because it's already Bumblebee. I'm not sure they would be able to make a good enough looking front end for the mustang that has the strobe light. The pointed nosed muscle cars was an 80's design, now things are going back to the retro flat nose with the exception of the Corvette.
The problem with this is that not everyone can go out and buy a new C5 or Z06 Corvette. Most people in the market for a new car can buy a Mustang if they want. Same as how they could buy a trans am in the 80's, same price range. It definatly needs to be a domestic car, i'm low on ideas though. Will have to see what the next generation mustang brings.

I hope they don't use the Mustang, because no matter what they do it will be lame. Recall if you will the quickly forgotten Knight Rider 2000 TV movie.
I think they used a Saturn with all sorts of hideous body work to look more like a Trans/Am. I even thought it was a T/A with ugly body work until I saw the front wheel burnout. (Yeah I was one of three or four people that watched it.) It was red and just awful.

UPDATE: Sources with the involved companies tell us this is the real car -- the actual car to be used in the show. But, because "it wasn't working at the effects studio yesterday," someone did photoshop the red light. Our detective work's paid off on yesterday's rumor on the new KITT. Now not only do we have off the record confirmation from the "involved parties" that KITT will lose the GM third generation F-body (and legions of mullet-swinging fans), but also that he'll be moving up a few steps on the horsepower ladder. That's right, everyone's favorite talking car (no, not spelled K-A-R-R) will be played by a black-with-gray-stripes 550 HP Ford Shelby GT500KR Mustang in the new Knight Rider TV show. And thanks to a very helpful tipster who's preference is to remain anonymous (we don't blame 'em) we've got the proof to show you -- photos taken from inside of the vehicle build facility out in LA where they're prepping the new Knight Industries 'stang for Cylon-like close-ups.
