Just test drove the new mustang

alright guys. I am a bmw person. I have mostly owned bmws and never thought of owing a domestic car. however, today i was tempted to test drive the new mustang as I like the look of it. I stop by a dealer and take it for a test drive. all they had was a v6 mustang so i have no choice to drive this one. Plus it was automatic. Anyway, to sum it up. i was impressed. Even for a v6 the engine sounded nice, but when I gunned it I definately felt the car could use more power. The engine sound was oh so nice I can just imagine a v8 and 5 speed. Probably a blower later point. Anyway, to make the short story, i was disappointed with the interior design though. They should have used better quality products inside.
Anyway, i may be a v8 owner very soon. wish me luck

Well, the price of the BMW does diffently come into play when comparing it to the Mustang. I got rid of my 2001 GT to buy a another 540. After three years, I got rid of the 540 and waited for 3 months without a car to get the 05 GT. Had a guy stop buy this weekend who was just driving by in his Porsche Carrera, and said, you know there is nothing like a mustang. He is getting rid of the Porshe for the new GT. Nothing, and I mean nothing to me, beats the American muscle car rear wheel drive V8 driving experience!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As the former driver of BMW, I can truly say that this is the closest thing Ford has ever done to come near them. And I would challenge BMW to produce anything at all that would come close for $29,000 in both performance and style. They can't do it.

I have owned both mustangs and BMWs(5 series). The BMW is far superior in the interior materials quality dept. It is also twice as much money. The Mustang is far superior in the "thrill of V8" dept at half the price.

well, let me put it this way. I am a resident of this country and have been living here since 85 as a kid. I am pretty much american now. It brings pride to see American Icons coming back and making a statement. I love BMWs and Porsches but it's good to have a mustang in the stable. :-)

Lil' -- we have a few BMW's ourselves over here. (My wife and I both drive them now). My next car is likely to be the mustang. What I love most is the customization and the exterior style -- I'm not a bangle fan at all. The interior is nice. The did it retro and inexpensive, but not cheap. It isn't exactly leather and wood (they do have the leather though) -- but then again they can put in a cup holder, and don't charge me $600+ for an option to allow the rear seats to fold down. I also like the quantity of dealers, and their attitudes. The BMW dealers were always arrogant. Lately, all the ones I find are practically French. (I don't have a name for uber-arrogant). And then there's the price -- I could get another M3, or two GT's. Or more likely, a special edition (even a Cobra), and still have $10K+ of mad money.
The germans do nice details; the spare fuses (just in case), the tools built into the trunk lid, extra coverings. The M3 gets better milage, and runs higher revs to get it's power, I want a sequential psuedo-automatic, heated leather seats, and so on. But did I mention the Mustang is 1/2 the price?!?!? Seriously. It would be nice if Ford learned a bit about the "posh" options. But there a design elegance in the price part of "price/performance" ratio. In performance, the Mustang will out accellerate -- but I think the M's will out turn (skidpad) and out stop. But get the Cobras and that gets tighter (with a lot more pull). And the Saleens and other tuners could pretty handily beat most of the specs of the M3 last I'd checked (for less money).
But I really love the character of the 2005+ stang. I wouldn't call it style -- that's superficial. I think it runs deeper than that. So Deiter and Hans can build their toys for the California yippies, but I think I'm done with the brand for a while... (Just my .02)
