Just Ordered 2007 GT, Have Questions
Hey all! I'm new to the board (just joined a few minutes ago).
Currently, I have a Laser Red 2000 GT with 26K miles on it sitting in my garage. Well, that's going up for sale next week, cause I just ordered my Red Fire 2007 GT on Monday!!!
The dealership and salesman that I dealt with have been pretty good to me thus far, although we ran into a couple of snags on "order day."
First, they internet salesman (who ended up being my salesman) had told me via email that they could order me a GT/CS. On Monday, we went through the process of spec'ing out the order (I had the 2007 order guide with me, everything I wanted highlighted). After we finished, he found out that they were already built out for '07. I should've known that already, but I thought that they knew something I didn't. Oh well, I could've waited for an '08, but they wouldn't X-Plan the CS and my pocket book wasn't liking the $5k over sticker.
In the end, I ordered the GT Premium with the options shown at the bottom of this post. I made sure that they knew that I didn't want any dealer stickers, plates, etc. and that I wanted to be there when the car arrives (or shortly thereafter).
I'm pretty psyched, but I do have a few questions for the factory order veterans (and/or sales folks) that cruise these boards. This is the second time I've factory ordered (different dealers; the first one wasn't too great), but I still don't feal that I've got all the facts and ins/outs of how it all works.
Questions...
1. I've been searching the boards today and I've noticed that folks know the build date of their Stangs. Is that something you can find out before the car arrives, or only after? (i.e. can I get a better status/idea of when the car's gonna get here)
2. I've also seen that sometimes the orders get screwed up during entry. They gave me a Vehicle Order Confirmation sheet with my name on it, order no 1111, priority 11. Based on all the 1's and the fact that they said it would go in on Tuesday, can I assume that this was just a fake/test entry to see if my options were all compatible and for pricing purposes?
3. The salesman said that they'd give me the X-Plan on this (he said this after I told him I was a manager at Westinghouse). Now, apparently the system was "down" on Monday and they couldn't get the X-Plan numbers/$. They said that the final price would be no greater than invoice (based on the options below, the VOC sheet invoice price was $30,858) and probably a little less. They highlighted the $ on the VOC and signed it to guarantee that I wouldn't pay any more than that, but I'm still curious what my final price will be (and how do they X-Plan me; I don't think my company actually is a "partner of Ford"; they said it wouldn't be a problem though)? I don't really know too much about the X-Plan other than a couple of tidbits I picked up googling today.
4. I read somewhere that they're running short on the Nav system. I ordered mine with it, so do you think I'll have any troubles/delays??? (obviously a pretty off-the-wall question that no one will have the answer to unless they've been told by Ford or a dealer already I guess).
5. Any other tips/advice on the whole factory order thing??? (I know a little late, since I already placed the order)
Thanks guys! This looks like a great board (and everyone seems pretty nice). I'm glad I found it and I'm looking forward to spendin' some virtual time with y'all! Too bad I didn't find it a few years ago!
Now I just have to sell my 2k Stang and survive the next eight weeks... Anyway, here's the options on my 2k7 GT...

Welcome aboard! I too found this site right about the time I ordered my GT (the first time!). To answer your questions...
1. A couple of weeks after the order is accepted by Ford it is serialized and receives it's VIN number. At that time the build week is specified. Your dealer will be able to give you this info, but you'll likely have to bug them for it based on what you've already said about your experience with them.
2. That could be a real order number, especially if it has your name on it. Tough to say for certain. I can say that I would request a copy of the VOC AFTER they officially place the order to be sure. I found my dealer's mistake after the car was already serialized - which it too late to change anything.
3. I don't understand how they can simply give you x-plan. Maybe they'll simply give you x-plan pricing. I don't recall the formula off the top of my head, but it's around $300 less than invoice.
4. ???
5. Take my advice, don't log back onto any forums until AFTER you receive the car! I've been cruising around for weeks finding all of the goodies that I can use to upgrade my car. I literally have a garage full of parts ready to go! Since I don't have my car yet, and my wait has been doubled by the dealer's goof, I have nothing better to do than shop for parts. If you wait until after you have the car you'll be so busy driving it you'll save yourself $10k easy! Ask me how I know!!!
Good luck!

why would you order an 07 gt when you wanted a gt/cs. Also the 08's are coming out soon, I think they start late summer. They are going to have mood lighting supposedly, HID's and I am sure some other cool stuff. So just wondering why dont you reorder with a good dealership to get you what you want and wait a couple months and have the hottest 08. Just my thoughts. I would love to have an 08 or 09 they are going to keep adding stuff to them to keep them hot is the rumor, bullit edition and other goodies yet to be released. They supposedly are ramping up the newer models due to decrease in sales is what I read. So if I were you I would wait and get exactly what you want you will be ****ed later. good luck
sodaman: Believe me... I thought about waiting, but to be honest, the cost was gonna go to high for my liking (unless someone would sell me one w/o the markup), and my desire to get one sooner rather than later got the better of me I guess. Anyway, I am getting what I want (I just altered my want). Ok, that sounds stupid. Long story short... I'm happy with what I ordered. I mean, they'll always come out with new goodies, but you gotta pull the trigger at some point (so I did :-).
RobK: Thanks for the answers. I'm gonna call the dealer tomorrow and ask them to fax over the final VOC. They said it went in on Tuesday, so they either somehow saved the order and submitted it the next day (don't know why) or they actually re-entered it on Tuesday. Either way, if I push 'em a little for stuff like this, they'll get the point of what I'm expecting when the car arrives (as long as I don't cross the line over to "jerk" or "really annoying customer").
I'm a little perplexed on the X-Plan stuff too, but either way, I'm at least guaranteed invoice (which is why I asked them to sign it).
Yeah, I hear ya on the "gettin' ideas on how to spend more money." I've already come across a couple of "cool bling" posts today (I won't even look at perfomance mods for awhile! ;-).
Thanks again! It's gonna be a lonnnngggg 8 weeks.

If you have an x-plan pin, you have x-plan. I also do not understand why they wont give you x-plan on a CS either, its just an options package
When they build the vehicle in concepts, it shows invoice/retail/xplan/and a plan pricing. They can just print the screen on the spot and give it to you. It doesn't make sense to just 'sell' it at invoice. When they report it as an x-plan with a pin, Ford pays the dealer back to roughly 2% over invoice, so dodging the x-plan, they loose money. All of it sounds strange and WAY overcomplicated. I've been selling Fords for almost 5 years. We sell GT/CS package models just like any other GT. If they can not get them anymore it's one thing.
Also, if you are ordering the Dove color package, make sure you understand that the seats are not grey and the rest of the interior is not black like the red or chamois packages(and also misrepresented on the fordvehicles website). It has grey plastic with black seats.

Jesse,
For all the dates, register at BlueOvalForums and post your order number and dealer code (all available from your Order Confirmation). A person by the name of Chuck734 will get you all the info.

Also, if you're truly in love with Redfire (which is what I have and I too had Laser Red on our '97 Exepedition), it will be replaced in '08 by Candy Apple Red. I'm sure the color will be close to Redfire, but ask the Vista Blue and Sonic Blue owners how different the colors are.
Good luck and welcome to the '07 family.

Hollywood... Yeah, I read your post about the Nav earlier, which is why I got worried. Like I said, I'm gonna ask for them to fax the final VOC to me tomorrow.
Steevr, thanks for the tip. I'll register at blueovalforums after I get the VOC. Hmmm, I've always liked candy apple red. Maybe I should've waited. Naaa... I'm just a fan of the deep/dark red (which is why I picked the laser red last time and red fire this time).
Kevin, that's what I thought about the CS, but they said that they were selling at $5k over (at least at that dealership). I figured that's what was going on at most places, but I probably assumed wrong. One question about the color though... I knew that the seats weren't all grey, but the dealer's book said that the seats would be charcoal/grey which led me to believe that they'd be two-toned (similar to the CS seats). Is that not the case? If not, I might try and change it to the red seats.

Glad we're finally entering spring. Good time for a Honeymoon.
Nope, not two toned. There is a thread with all the interior color packages.

Awesome. Thanks for the heads up! The pics I saw had everything reversed (i.e. the door inserts were dove and the bulk of it was charcoal, not the other way around). I don't think I would've liked the gray dash and all that.
If I change the color on Monday, does that work as a cancelled and then a new order, or is it just a pre-serialization change to an existing order? I'm just worried about not being able to get the nav system if it's a re-order (from Hollywood's comments).
No you can just change it and it will not change the scheduling. I forgot on my OWN order of all things the 3:55's and changed it less then a week before it was built with no issues. Some other options like NAV or 18" wheels might though. Interior color you should be fine.
