was on the freeway...in my lane...minding my own business when I was hit from behind. Pull over, and the guy hit my left rear quarter panel with his front/right bumper.

my car is dented and scratched on the wheel well lip and the rear side bumper. he hit me so hard, I almost spun out...think pit maneuver.

he told the cop changed lanes in to him. lying large guy in Austin Powers. 60yr old guy who only speaks spanish, very little english...but we spoke very clearly when he told the cop I hit him.

my car is ugly now...and probably will be for a while. I feel like throwing up.

I don't know which story he believed. I guess I have to wait till the report is done. He was very neutral.

That [bleep!] sack of [bleep!]! Hopefully justice will prevail, at least your car was the car in front.

generally if you are the lead car and clip a car on your left at speed you are going to loose control. If however you are the lead car and someone from your left hits you in the rear you can usually stay in control (if you know how to drive).

Reason being if you the lead wchicle initiated the strike you would sttill intend to move in the same direction while the strikee would also continue to move in the same direction further pushing the lead vehicle into a spin.

If however the other way around, once releasing that the vehicle on the left has struck the lead vehicle will pull away to the left to lessen the impact damage and allow the lead vehicle to recover and maintain their forward momentum (if possible)

so had you initiated the strike you would have unknowingly driven your car right into the guard rail as even trying to correct it by steering to the right would force the back end of your car harder into the front end of the vehicle on the left and then it would be a matter of who's total vehicle kenetic inertia is larger would be the one to remain in control.

just think of it as if you were merging to the left your back end would have been accelerated around causing you to lose control. If you are driving in a straight line your chances for a safe (safer) recovery were much higher.

I am sure the cop knows who hit who

Typically when soneone is hit in the rear the car hitting the rear of the other car is at fault.

Yeah i bet the cop sides with you. The driver in the back is almost always at fault. And Nosferatu's explanation is sound.

That sucks dude, there are a lot of dumb drivers in So Cal, especially in traffic. You should take it down to lanzini, tell him your story and see if he'll sponsor your car if you lend it for show uses.
