Yeah Looks like they were comparing it to a lofty group of competitors!
As for the "GTO" in the background, It's a darn Shame!
I couldn't even tell what it was. Just looks too Bland and Generic! I'm a Ford man through and through, but I do appreciate older GTO's among other GM cars, but that GTO's just lame looking. I had thought that since Ford had quit making a 4 seat Thunderbird, that I would have to consider a GTO or a G35 Coupe to replace My 97LX 4.6 Bird when the time came untill I saw The New GTO at the New Car Show last year, :notnice: and the G35 was just too Cramped inside for me.
But that was all before I saw the 05 Mustang,
that will be the replacement for my Bird when she's ready to retire!

Now if the GTO looked like this, well........ I'd still go for the 05 Stang!

On page 39 of the article, when answering questions about the solid rear axle, Thai-Tang stated and I quote,
<span style='color:red'>
"Of course, for the customer who will sacrifice a bit of the raw performance for a more refined and balanced car, we'll have something for them down the road" Hau Thai-Tang
So waht does this mean? I really don't see the New Cobra giving up any performance, raw or otherwise. Refined and Balanced? Hummmmmm........?
Let the speculation begin!

I have a subscription to this mag, and I love it. The '05 bit is segmented into several issues. Each issue deals with a certain area of the build. Obviously, the first was about the suspension. The next is on the engine.
I read this article last week. I liked it a lot, very thoughtful, detailed and well balanced, not 90% drivetrain focus, 10% the rest of the car like a lot of Mustang mags.
Interesting that they mentioned they would offer an IRS on "... our higher-end performance models..." -- note they mentioned models in the plural. Again, I like that they devoted so much attention to the chassis, braking, and handling as so many Mustang mags are so narrowly focused on the drivetrain and dragstrip. The new chassis does look very promising indeed and should be orders of magnitude better than the current antique, the SN95.
And the attention to vehicle control and ergonomic details such as proper pedal placement for heel and toe driving also bodes very well for not only how fast the S195 will go, but how well the S195 will go fast. They seem to be benchmarking some very fine handling cars such as the RX-8 and M3.

You have to wonder if one of those mules has an SVT or other yet unannounced powertrain in it. It's good to see they are benchmarking against the M3. We can only hope this will translate to excellent handling.

Need more info!!
I have to be honest here....the first thing I thought was the last car was a Grand Prix....totally serious. For a split second I was wondering why they were using a Grand Prix in the comparison?
Looks like a good article.

As for balanced, I would not read 50/50 into what he is saying. I would say it is a more balance performer. IE not just a dragger, but a balance betwenn drag and autocross, street, slalom, etc. you may give up a little here to get a little there; hence the use of the word balance. Just my opinion tho.
Refined, well ford has made it no secret that they want the next cobra to go after the BMW M series so itll have to be more refined.
