Here's mine . . .

Mr. Garfield-

It puzzles me how anyone working for such a fine publication such as Crain’s could compose a more ridiculous article in regards to the 2005 Ford Mustang and the recent commercial featuring Steve McQueen. (Ooops . . you stated it was a 2004. That must have been the proofreaders fault.) Usually a writer will provide support to his/her opinions in regards to a product or service. Yet, I fail to read any support to your reference of the 2005 Mustang as “boring”. Care to elaborate?

And the fact “Katie” didn’t know the ad was for a Mustang means “Katie” has no idea what a Mustang is and therefore probably won’t be purchasing one anytime soon. That’s “OK” since Ford received ~25,000 orders with deposits before the cars hit dealerships. Not bad for a “Boring” car. Now getting back to the ad, dreams, for the most part, are at the very essence of one’s self, and the dreams conjured for this particular ad could not be more fitting for the 2005 Mustang. Now that’s my opinion, and you have yours, but I think the 2005 Mustang and the Steve McQueen ad deserved better than 1.5 out of 4 star rating. Maybe you just aren’t a “car” guy, now that’s “boring”.

I have to admit I had no clue who Steve McQueen was outside of the references to "Bullitt" performance. I thought the cornfield commerical was fantastic... At some point while I'm on vacation the week of Thanksgiving I will be renting Bullitt from the local video store .

If nothing else it helps re-promote a classic movie with lots of Stang action!

Jesus! So the critic didn't think the marketing idea. And now many of you are bombarding him with hate mail?

Here is my email to Mr Garfield:

"Mr. Garfield,

I currently own a 2005 (not to be confused with 2004) Ford Mustang GT. She is solid black with red leather interior and my God she is beautiful! Makes me want to grunt like Tim Allen does in Home Improvement! I bought the car for my wife as her "daily driver" and I can't get the key's away from her. My 18 year old son, who was the one to show my wife and I our first glimpse of the new Mustang on the internet back in February 2004, loves the car and is even more passionate than I about its styling. He is constantly feeding me new ideas about different modifications we can do to the Mustang. We are in love with the car and that is what Americans do, we have love affairs with our automobile's.

We took delivery on the car a couple of weeks ago (one of the first ones in the Houston, Tx. area) and ever since then have, quite frankly, felt like celebrities. We have yet to go anywhere with out being stopped and asked a hundred questions about the car. These questions, stares and open mouths are coming from young and old, male and female, single, married and retired. When stopped the other day in the Walmart parking lot my wife was unable to answer all of the technical questions about the Mustang's horsepower, torque and etc. Without missing a beat my 12 year old son stepped in and proceeded to answer all of the questions without fail. Heck, I even had two police officers on motorcycles go by me the other day while on the freeway and one of them gave me a thumbs-up at 70 mph because he liked the car. I've certainly never had that happen before.

This is our first Mustang and we are finding out in a hurry that Ford has a very loyal following when it comes to this car. Several people I have talked to say that Mustang's are the only car they have ever owned. Another said "I owned one way back when, have loved Mustangs ever since and now with this new model coming out I am going to buy another one. The car is anything but boring and all the attention we are getting is a testament to that.

In your article you say "Ford Motor Company had better hope that the time machine is still humming". I think that the only thing Ford has to worry about is trying to keep up with the demand. The American muscle car is back and it's gonna sell like hotcakes.

Joe"

It has nothing to do with that, its the fact that he had no idea about the rest of the subject, such as calling it an 04 and saying the Mustang was dying. Its his opinion if he likes the ad or not, its that he has none of the facts right in the rest of the article.

If people are paid to do reviews . They should do some investigating before they open their mouth or write an article in the news paper. If people bash him ,so be it . It will teach him to put in a little more effort in his work before he starts writing.

Your avatar is teh cute.

Now, as to why, there's two reasons, I think.

1) It's a PDF file, which means you must have Acrobat Reader installed so your browser can see it. (Just stating the obvious. Don't shoot me.)

2) It's frickin' huge at 19MB. I stopped downloading it after a while. Try right clicking and saving it first. It won't show up for a while if you try to run it in a browser directly.

3) All I got. If it ain't those...

Brad: Any way that can be stored somewhere else and shaved down a bit? Not all of us have T1s ya know...

I can guess what the guy says in the article, but I'd sure like to read it myself... Guess I'll wait 'till tonight. My office Internet is the siphon.

Elton John's dead? 2004 Mustang? Glad he did his research.

His first comment showed his bias toward the car.
The product is the Mustang, the formerly revolutionary, now boring sports car.
Doesn't matter how good/great the car actually is, he wouldn't write a positive article.

And what makes him think it was targeted at 23 year olds? I thought it was great.

I will be buying one. I've waited years for Ford to produce a new Mustang that at one glance, looks like a Mustang.

Corvette? Naaa... bet he drives a Z4 and loves the new look of BMW.

Oh, I'm 53.

"HATE" mail?

We are merely enthusiasts who have been offended by his article. Being that this is the US, we have the right to tell him so. Hopefully we aren't the only people who feel this way.

I will not be writing him as I will sound immature in my rants and fear that explatives may fly from the keyboard beyond my control.
