Joined the TMS "crash club" on Friday...

All,
The other day, 11/20/09, I got nailed by a drunk driver as I was heading home from a function my unit was having. Came up in the fast lane, swerved right into the drivers side of my car, continued moving, kept trying to correct and "BAM!" hit the center divider head-on. Driver was drunk, passenger was a little girl (5-7 years old) who came running from the truck after the crash and asked me for help. She was bleeding. When I got to the truck, driver was also bleeding heavily, truck was smoking. The driver was snoring as well, slumped over both front seats. Not a good scene.
That said, by the grace of God I was spared from injury, and my car still drives normally (or so it seems) so hopefully it'll just be bodywork to deal with.
Please keep the little girl in your thoughts and prayers.

-Jim

Major suckage. That's a group I never want to join.

What an assbag that guy is. Drinking and driving is never anything but bad, but with a little girl in the car. I hope the little girl is OK now.

Good god man. I'm glad you are ok and I'm really glad that little girl was able to walk away from that mess and I hope she is doing better.

Why cant the culling process happen to these idiots on their own time and not around children and other innocents. It disgusts me so much its not even funny.

She's probably going to grow up and do the same thing. That or marry someone who is a drunk.

thats a shame, and not just for your car To drink and drive is bad enough, but to put a little girl in harms way?

Thats just not ok

When I drink, I hide my keys or let someone else drive me. Thats all thats acceptable

What a great thing to say about a 5-7 year old girl.

I thought that was an odd thing to say too, but then I thought I was reading it wrong.

So because the adult male in the car is a drunken *** that endangers people, the little girl is supposed to grow up to be one too.

It's just a 5-7 year old little girl. She's innocent. Hopefully she grows up to be president or something.

I agree that comment was out of place but I think what he was trying to say is that so many times little kids grow up in that type of enviroment that they just seam to get caught in a vicious circle and they grow up just like there parents. We can only pray for her and hope this is not the case with her.
Just my .2

Thanks, all. It was just astounding. I was going about 55-60 MPH, and I got blindsided out of nowhere by this truck that was doing about 80. I'm guessing the mother was the driver, though I can't confirm her relationship to the little girl. I got an estimate of about 3k to fix it, plus a rental car, etc. The icing on the cake was that Friday was my birthday...I guess that was God's gift to me, letting everyone survive.

Driving drunk, then driving drunk with a kid in the car.

I just may have told the girl to wait here by my car as I checked/took a leak on the driver.
Ok so I "probably" would not take a leak on the driver, but you get the idea.

Looks like it was just cosmetic for ya and you weren't hurt, that's a plus.

Tuff break dude. I don't think you can remove that with rubbing compound.

Wow, that's terrible dude, it's a shame it had to happen in the first place, but maybe you're right. Although i do think a better gift would be to see that little girl raised by someone more responsible. it's really sad to know that someone obviously close could endanger her in such a way

I'm just glad nobody was seriously hurt...and yes, even the guy that was drinking & driving.

I truly hope he learns from this incident and doesn't do it again.

Well, got the car towed off today, so it is at the body shop. Here's hoping for a speedy resolution! Thanks for the kind words, all!

It's a shame, but it's not the end. Make sure you use top-notch body shop and you'll get it back in a week.
