Jack Stands on SubFrame Connector

Is it okay to put the jack stands on the subframe connector? I want to get some more room downthe center of the car, and just putting the stands on the front crossmember only give about 1-1/2 feet of space between them.

Also, what is the proper technique to getting all 4 wheels off without any problems? Which end should go up first. I have read someone that brought the rear up haf ay, then the front full, then the rear end to match. Does this sound right?

Thanks,

Sean

There are jacking instructions in your owners manual, complete with lift points and jack stand locations.

Yes there is, but not for the S197 frame. Take a look at it.

I'm pretty sure the points all still apply, it's just a generic picture of a mustang.

The subframe connector isn't going to be mentioned in the "proper jacking points" in the manual because it's not a stock part.

I have been putting the car on jack stands for a while, and still aren't sure exactly where Ford says they should go. I've seen the diagram posted and it looks nothing like a s197 underneath. Anyone have pics or a better diagram?

I would also like some clarification here. Would like to rotate tires in a couple more thousand.

Maybe subframe is not what I am referring to.

Check out the attachment for the location I am referring too, and please tell me what to call it. This is the front end of the car.

I jack the car from that spot all the time to get my main jack under the center of the car just below the engine. Since I lowered the car, I need 2 jacks to get it into the air. Once I have the car up, I also use those spots for the jack stands. I have probably done this on the order of 20 or so times with no issues.

I put my stands there all the time without an issue. I jack from the center of the K-frame and throw the stands where you pointed under the mount bolts.

I always jack the front first, then the rear or my floor jack won't clear the front lower valance.

Do you guys all have floor jacks that can reach either the k-member or pumpkin and still be able to raise and lower the handle enough to jack up the car? I have two floor jacks, but neither is able to be "jacked" once it's under the car. I always end up lifting both sides of the front or back at the factor lift points (pinch welds) and then putting stands under the car.

Mini-ramps allow you to get floor jacks under a lowered Mustang. I made mine out of a 2"x12"x8', cut into four pieces with 2"x6" stoppers nailed on (see photo). Simple & works great.

I made ramps for the front using 2"x12". I just bought another 2x12x10 board, and had it cut, so I could create a mini rear ramp to drive up on to get to the pumpkin.

For the life of me, I cannot imagine why I wouldn't always lift the rear by the pumpkin. Somehow, the safety Bozos figured it must not be safe somehow. What is really important is always use good quality safety stands AND leave your floor jack in position on the pumpkin, with a little pressure, as a backup. Block the grounded pair of wheels on both sides too. When lifting both ends up on four jacks, you can still leave your floor jack gently braced on the transmission, as a safety backup.
