I've had my car for 5 years - got a present the other day

Well, it wasn't exactly the present I was looking for. I actually got a smack in the grill. Yup, My early production 2005 GT with lots of love got smashed in the middle of an intersection the other day. I am not an expert, but it does not look good. Things are definetly shifted to the left, so I am kind of guessing some frame damage. I asked the tow truck driver and others if they thought it would make it and no one had good thoughts.

On a good note, everyone who saw it said the car was a nice car. Unfortunately the word "was" was attached to their statement. The other good part was the safety. I only have minor scrapes and bruises. The airbag did go off and I sit far enough back I don't think the airbag hit me, but I hit the airbag.

Insurance guy visited the car and is evaluating what the value is and let me know if it is totaled or not.

When I got hit, it knocked the grill off and threw it two lanes over and I got spun (360) and ended up a couple lanes over. I am thankful I am ok mostly, but extremely sad my car might not make it. I do not know what I will do next. I don't think another 05 will fill the void and I don't like the 10 models. But my loving wife smiled and said we can get a Cobra. So I might look around to see what GT500s are around if this car doesn't make it. Wierd part is, I would rather have my car as opposed to a GT500 right now.

Notice how far back the wheel is pushed. I just installed those wheels about 2 months (less than 200 miles) ago.

And of course.... The before:

Ouch! My car just hit 5 years as well and I almost got nailed by someone on Saturday so I put the car away until the spring. Looks like your frame is fubar.

I would also guess it is totalled. Sorry about the car, and I really like those wheels. At least if it is totalled, maybe you can sell the wheels? Do you still have the stock ones? If so talk to your insurance co and see if they will let you swap out the stock ones for the new ones.

Thanks, The insurance guy said he will work with me to allow me to keep the wheels, intake, scoop, etc... if he can't give me some value for them.

Sorry about that. But if it's toast, you may be able to get an '06 or '07 as a replacement.

Thanks everyone. It is nice to hear how others like my car. I have always looked to others and liked theirs, so it is interesting to know others looked to mine. Hopefully someone will take the look and continue.

I am not sure how some people fix a car up and get rid of it. But I do look forward to getting something again and working on it.

Replacement?

As was said in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country:

Spock: This will be my final voyage aboard the Enterprise as a member of her crew. Nature abhors a vacuum. I intend you to replace me.
Lt. Valeris: I can only succeed you, sir.

Can't really ever 'replace' a car like that. You do it once... and it's like a genie that's escaped it's lamp. But you can get another genie... theoretically. But it won't look like Barbara Eden... But it could look like Genie Francis. Both good lookin' (or similarly performing?) but unique from each other.

So sorry for your loss! Glad you are ok! The car can be replaced, you can't! Mustangs sure are safe! It's sad to see such a nice, well cared for Mustang in that shape

Man, I feel badly I didn't mention that I too am also glad you're ok. I was just responding to the 'replacement' bit, because that's how I'd feel. I hope you get another one, that one is done.

Glad you are OK. That looks serious. Shows how tough these things are built. If you can keep some of the parts, why worry about a new car, and go and get your car's twin. As much as I would like a GT500, there is just something about how MY CS looks in the sun. I imagine its the same for you. Good luck with getting everything sorted out. I hope it works out for you.

I got mine the day before Thanksgiving 04 , so mine will be 5 years old next week too. I got broadsided in 07 and even though she looks pretty bad , they put her back together and I've had absolutely no problems stemming from the wreak. So I know how you feel , but it's only a bad dream now. I hope it works out for you too ...
