I know I sound like a nut but I've waited sooooo long for this car that I'm wondering if I should just order an 06? Or should I take the 05 and put an 06 on order? It almost feels like a letdown that it is here actually waiting to be picked up tomorrow. Like looking forward to Christmas and then afterward feeling the letdown. Besides, if I'm out driving it, I can't talk or listen to you guys!

Unless there is something in the '06 offerings that you want more than what's already here, get the car and enjoy it. If you get a 2006 model in 2005, depending on how much you drive, you mileage might come out to be higher a few years down the road, which affects resale value.
Getting a 2005 in the middle of the calendar year generally helps...plus you get to drive the thing!

About a month after I ordered mine in late March, I became convinced that my order would be canceled, what with all the stories and rumors flying around. I even went and looked at a couple of other cars on my short list. The 350Z is a rocket on rails, btw.
Then my salesman called with the build date, and ten days later I drove it home. I took it out today for an hour just to enjoy it! You know how many years it's been since I just "went for a drive"?
Get the 05, and if the 06 has something you must have, worry about it then. Meanwhile, enjoy!!

I'd pick up the 05. The 05 will probably be the more "collectable" car in the future. It will be know as the first totally new Mustang in many years. The 06 will just be a followup to the 05 with minor modifications. If you want a car that will be more of a classic stick with the 05. Oh well, thats my opinion since you asked. Enjoy!

I see your getting a GT...With all the stories about major markups why not just take the car and resell it for a nice little profit. Then order the 06 and put the profit towards it...

If you are complaining about waiting this long before the car shows up, why would you let it go and order an 06 adding a few more months to the wait? Go pick up the car and let her rip - within 5 minutes you'll be thanking yourself.

I really don't see any logical reason to not pick it up and instead order the '06. You've already waited this long, why do you want to force yourself to wait longer. There is very little difference between the '05 and '06. And everything you have listed will be on the '06 and nothing new on the '06 (except maybe a tire pressure monitor, do you really want to wait another xx months for ONLY that?). And as has been said, this is the first totally new Mustang since 1979 and may very well hold value better than an '06 if you take care of it (if you're looking at it as a potential collector's car - which is a bad idea, very hard to predict).
GET THE CAR, DRIVE IT, AND ENJOY IT!!!!!

I understand fully what your wondering. It's the fact that now it's certain and you wanna make the right choice. I had the same problem after I totalled my mustang and didn't know what vehicle you want.
Go watch Bullitt and Gone in 60 Seconds.
Go to the dealership playing Mustang Sally, Magic Carpet Ride, Highway Star, I Get Around, Little Deuce Coupe and Hey Little Cobra.
Sit in the car first. Turn the key to accesory mode. Roll down the windows. Turn the key. Listen to it roar to life then slowly go back down and purr. Listen to her call your name. Rev it acouple times. Feel the body lift up as the rpms hit the rev limiter.
Put it into drive and pull out slowly. Listin to that growl only a Mustang can make. Almost like she's sayin "what is this? full throttle me baby!" Go find a sidestreet and give her what she wants. Go full bore. Feel the tires lock up and put the power to the ground.
Go around turns and feel the most control you will ever feel in a car. Point the steering wheel in the direction you wanna go, and watch the car bow to your command. Try to break the back end loose if you can.
Now if you don't want that mustang now hows about i keep it company for ya?

Allison, don't buy it! We'll miss you. Stay here and talk to us. Silly car can wait another year...
(The preceeding was a vain attempt to invoke reverse psychology.

PS - After reading what Kevin had to say, I just want to get behind the wheel of my car and drive drive drive!

I totally agree with everyone else. Once you take it out for a test drive, you are not going to want to give it back.
Get what you know you have. Who knows what kind of allocation problems, lawsuits, supply issues, etc. may be coming up during the next production year.
