Instrument cluster gauge sweep before startup

A small detour from the thread... This A.M., I start our Stang - I ALWAYS turn the radio off due to concerns about draining the battery, and the stereo - particularly, the CD six-disc changer goes through a bunch of gyrations for a minute, then settles down. And the stereo was turned off. What was up with that?

mine will do this if I leave the radio on and in cd mode.. otherwise if I turn it off before I shut her down it will not
