Installing a GT500 instrument cluster into and 05 GT
I'm thinking about putting a GT500 instrument cluster in my 05 GT. I thought there was info on here but I have been unable to locate it. Is this something I can do on my own or does it have to be done at the dealership. I haven't been able to find anything being sold online so I guess it has to be ordered from the dealership. The reason I'm replacing mine is because the gas gauge and tach no longer work and I have a manual so no tach is not fun.

I am French so I SHOULD BE OFFENED by your signature line, but then again I am French so I am not.
BTW the rifles have been dropped twice.
It can be done fairly easily. As far as I understand, it is just plug and play. The only thing that would have to be done by the dealer is to reprogram the mileage to read whatever your car is at.
That being said, <insert shameless plug> if you haven't already purchased one, I will be posting a used one in the next few days.

I have a GT MyColor cluster in my 07 v6. It was plug and play. If you want MyColor option, you need to make sure you have the wire behind the plate on the left upper corner of the radio bezel. You pop off the cover and if you are MyColor capable, it will have a simple wire (I believe 2 wires) harness that plugs into the "info" switch. If you have the info switch, then you just need the cluster. I like the GT better as it goes to 140 mph, where as the v6 is only 120. MyColor is also 6 gauges and not the 4, and has a message center readout.
If you can't find your cluster you are looking for, I have a Foose MyColor available with only 7115 miles on it. It comes with the info switch. It would work for your year as long as you have the info buttons or the wires taped to the switch block off plate. Another shameless plug. lol

If the GT500 donor car had side air bags then you may also need to have the dealer load the as built data from your car into the cluster. You may get an AIRBAG warning light on the cluster if you don't. Only way to know for sure is to try it.
I put one in my 05 , and since I didn't have the TPMS I would get the warning at each startup. All I had to do was hit the reset button, and it would go away to the next startup. My new cluster also had the speed limit warning turned on, I was told it was mandatory in Europe, and that was a pain. Basically, any option that the new cluster has turned on and your car doesn't have, you'll get a warning. You need the old cluster in the car and have the dealer down load it's info, then put the new cluster in and upload the old cluster info, they charged me an hour labor to do it. Thinking about it now, if it hadn't been for the speed limit warning, I could have just put TPMS sensors on my tires

Yep you will get the TPMS warning, and getting sensors will not fix it if your car is older than an '07
The GT500 has a different junction box that allows for the TPMS programming, any pre-07 car will not have that.
Ask me how I know

If you still have your old cluster, you can install it and have the dealer down load it's info, put the new cluster back in and upload the old clusters info, I was only charged an hours labor to do this. I maybe could have lived with the TPMS warning, but I also had the speed warning every time I passed some speed limit, I couldn't live with that.
