Alright, the new Clarion CX501 is installed and fully operational. I haven't decided what color to go with yet on the display, I'm guessing either green or blue to match my dash lights.
The install was pretty simple overall. I purchased the PAC C2R-FRD1 wiring harness adapter with the head unit from Crutchfield. The cost was listed at $129, but was on sale for $64. Made the install super simple. All I needed to do was connect the CX501 wiring harness to the PAC C2R-FDR1 wiring harness. This took 15 butt connectors. There are 4 wires on the PAC harness that you don't end up using when mating to the Shaker 500 system.
Once this was complete, I removed the shaker head unit and then used it as a template to install the CX501 into its dash mounting kit. Again very simple.
Following that it was just plug in all the wiring harnesses and give it a test. System turned on and functioned properly with no issues on the first attempt. I then put all the trim back together and started adjusting the CX501 to my preferences and paired my Droid X to the unit. I found that it both functions as a handsfree phone as well as will stream bluetooth audio flawlessly. (Make sure to go into the head unit settings and select it to automatically pair on startup so it works when you start the car without having to select it again.) Here are a couple pictures.

Note on the PAC harness I taped all the wires together using electrical tape after making the connections to prevent rattles.

Just as a point of information. I was out of town for a few weeks. I installed the got2be and harness today making corrections to the harness. It looks so far like it working. I will give further information soon.

After making all the changes to the GOT2b harness and the HVT harness it looks like all the programs are working. The sound is working on the radio speakers.
Keep in mind that this was installed on a 2009 GT/CS with the factory navigation system.

Very interested in your installation. Where did you mount the control? Did you have to make any changes to work with the Nav system? Anything special needed for the system?

Thanks Terry, I was getting ready to give up. I also spoke to Kevin at HFVT and he said he would make the information available to future customers.

Beargap,
I installed the controller at the same location as post#10. The electronic box was placed under the radio. The biggest (pia) is removing the the upper console and the radio facia. You will have to push all the wiring harness to the back behind the radio. With a couple wiring changes you can make it work. When you receive a call the radio mutes and the navigation screen shows PHONE at the upper left corner. The sound is transferd to the radio speakers.
So far all is working well.

Thanks. I assume that is the G2-1100 model from Got2bwireless and the HF-FD-AMP-2-G2b harness from HFVT that has to be bought separately? We also have Nav in both the Mustang and a Mountaineer and would like the built-in bluetooth for the phones. I'm not conerned about pulling the radio out of the Mustang...I've done that several times already for various mods.

Vic,
The Mustang 2008 pin out should be the same as my 2009. For the Mountaineer it could be different. You would need to get a copy of the pin out. If you decide to do the mustang send me a e-mail.
