I know hypothetical questions tend to not do well on these boards, but I just couldn't resist.

Question:

If Phil Martens, Hau Tai-Tang, etc. polled you as part of the development of an SE Mustang, what would you ask for and why?

My Answer:

A "BOSS 5.4"

Why:

-- A BOSS model is long overdue.

-- Nobody living outside of a trailer park with mountains of rusted Camaros and Challengers uses cubic inches anymore.

-- A 3v 5.4L Naturally-Aspirated V8 would produce over 350hp, assuming the same horsepower/liter figure as the 4.6L version. Note, however, that the horsepower/liter ratio will probably be higher for the 5.4L, as it is newer from head to toe than the 4.6L, which has been around since god-knows-when. So, we're probably looking closer to 400hp.

-- I would like something more than 300hp for bragging rights, but I simply can't justify getting more than 400hp. There are no tracks in my area and we have highway patrols out the wazoo.

Specifics:

-- Blacked-out hood

-- SUBTLE aerodynamic body-work

-- Black leather interior with cream stitching as per the Ford 427 Concept

-- "Grabber" colors, as per the '69 and '70 BOSS

-- Black striping and accents

-- Off-set '69 Mustang logo on grille, as per the '69 BOSS and Mach 1

-- Billet chrome fine-tooth grille

-- 5.4L NA V8, 3v w/VVT

-- Live axle rear

-- 6-MT

-- MSRP around $31K

hmmm. i;d go witha a Boss aswell, but i'd want it a bit different.

i DO want more cubes. not much tho, 5.8L will do it. thats uh, 351. as in BOSS 351

kinda like this
styling cues from these would be in order...

so something like this is what im hoping for, minus the Mach 1 logos replaced with Boss 351 logos etc

2005 mach

i'd want, again, at least 400hp, live axle, 6spd would be nice, louvers most definately, those magnums of course, functional ram air, side exhaust would totally rock, still keep it aroun $30K, and obviously a 351 V8. now that i think of it, a 351 V10 would raise costs WAAAAY too much for it to be productiove. its a fun dream, but not practical. so lets take a Windsor n use that yum

AND competition orange as an available color Grrrr. and i want all the black accents to be matte.

if you're lisnin, please build it

EDIT: wtf? i cant link my own images from MY site? GRrr

Nice idea, but I got two points for ya:

1) There is no way in frozen Hades this thing will only cost $30K. You're looking upwards of $40K with everything you've mentioned...

2) I should point out that a V10 version of the current 4.6 Liter V8 would come out to about 5.8 Liters. So, hypothetically, they'd just have to modify the current 4.6L to allow for two more cylinders. Just thought you'd like to know!

Ok... you guys might think I'm crazy... and that I'm going against tradition but...

I live in Wisconsin... we have very nice weather for a convertible for 6 months of the year and really crappy weather for rear wheel drive the rest fo the year so....

I would love an all-wheel drive convertible. 350HP V8, 6-speed manual, AdvanceTrac, Heated Seats

True the all-wheel drive will eat up most of the HP gain, but I have to drive this in the real world.

See here now, :-) I happen to like "ci" better than "litre." Just like I like "Mustang" better than "350Z." It's classic American muscle terminology.

Oh, and in response to the question, I agree, I'd love a Boss, especially with a 351! Talk about putting the muscle back into muscle car. :worship:

If were just talking about a regular special edition (not a SVT version), Id just like to see some basic upgrades in appearance and preformance. Something along the lines of old GT 350 and GT 500. Niether of those cars made 350 or 500 HP, but they did have unique exterior modification and a good increase in power over the regular GT's of the day. Hopefully that would keep costs under 32k.

Something Easily Distinguishable (sp?) from a regular GT or V6

Give me another 35-50 HP (through any combo of an intake, exaust, computer tuning, pullies etc)

something that doesnt cost just as much as a cobra....

I agree with the ci statement. I was much more impressed by the new Z06's 427ci than I was its 7.0l. Then again, I grew up when they were rated in c.i.

I'd seriously consider a Boss 302. No doubt about that.

Boss 302. I'm sure with some development work, the cammer could be made legal.

I would like to see engine options

302 CI N/A

302 CI S/C

351 CI N/A

351 CI S/C

Pushrod or not on those, doesn't matter to me.

I also want Grabber colors back!

Choice of Live or IRS on the option sheet

The choice to delete items off the car upon order. I don't want A/C or a radio please.

I know that will never happen, but there it is.

response to
1) i can dream cant i? thay can cut corners on things like seats, stereo etc, i wont mind anyway!

2) trust me i know that, in fact thats EXACTLY what they did for the 1999 Boss 351 (see the link to my site) in fact, thats why i said they should bring back the 5.8L (351) Windsor. it was in the first gen Lightnings after all. and theres already a HUGE aftermarket following for that engine, cuz its very similiar to the 289/302 engines. actually if im not mistaken, its the same block? anyone wanna correct me if im wrong?

also, what in hades is wrong with a grande. i've seen some GREAT notchback chops that would be awesome as a grande. there are plenty of old grandes from 69-73 that still were kickass cars and had powerful motors. why the hate?

and all those engine options would be nice. the 60s were cool. there were like 7 engines, a great mix and match game, if u were buying a new one. theres so much less choice now...

ghia :nono:

The Windsor is taller than the 289/302 block.

Hmmmm.... I'd say bring back the mach as a regular production model, screw the SE status. That way these BOSS guys could have their SE BOSS mustangs.

Other than that,

07 Mach 1 MSRP 30 to 32k
Shaker hood
GT-R grille
70 Mach styling cues
375hp 3v All aluminum 5.4
6-Spd manual
4.10 8.8
Bad Boy exhaust
275's on 18" wheels
