I did 500 deposit with a credit check because I financed though ford credit, before he placed the order. I've done that with all cars I've financed though ford, though. In most cases, that 1 credit check is enough, however in the case of this car, credit approval from ford credit canada, only stays in the computer for 3 months. Since my car took longer to get here, it had to be re-approved when it had shown up.

I just put $500 down. No credit check. No loan preapproval. I already knew I was good, but I guess the dealer knew they'd sell the car one way or another.

I don't do things that way. I want a car, I call the bank, I get the money.

I never involve the dealership in financing at all.

Deposit is not out of the ordinary, just make sure it's refundable.

I ordered X-plan. No deposit, no loan pre-approval, no credit check. And this was in September of last year. I'd recommend expanding your search area and/or consider dealing with one of the salesman that frequent this board.

I was told $500 is the required minimum deposit for any order of a Ford product.

It makes sense that they do a credit check twice because it takes so long for the car to be produced. By the time they start production some people may have killed their credit rating so FORD is just making sure by double checking. I'd do the same thing if I was them.

I ordered mine on X-plan with $200 down. I don' think there is any set amount that is required, it is going to vary with the dealer that you order from.

I gave them 1000 down when I ordered my 05, they wanted me to fill out a credit app, but I knew I was going through my bank, so told them I didn't want to do it and put another check on my credit report. They didn't give me any push back with that.

The dealer just took my X-Plan id, no down payment.

When I ordered in August, I put a $400 refundable deposit on the car. No credit check, just my name, phone number, and $400. Of course, this was well before they knew that demand would be out the roof for these cars.

Depends on the dealer. For a customer we have never met or have a relationship with, then $500 is normal. For a customer we have done business with and have a relationship with, a handshake. And all deposits are refundable. We have never kept a deposit in 75 years. The only time we have required a higher deposit was when the customer was ordering a vehicle that no one else would ever own[ such as an F450 chassis with a V-10 , stick shift, and NO A/C], then we take a couple thousand dollar non-refundable deposit. Never got stuck with an unsellable unit yet.

Ordered mine last week. No down pmt, no credit check, nothing. Just took my name and phone number. Have my VOC and DORA in hand. I had never been to this dealer before either.
I just walked up to the finance manager and said I'd like to order an 06 GT on X-plan. I told him I had my PIN , proof of eligibility, etc and he said he wouldnt need that till it came in. A wholly painless experience.

the deposit is usually up to the dealer. The less popular colors usually require a deposit, because its somewhat harder to sell that color.

Each dealer is also granted an allotment of vehicles. Every custom order takes up one of those. They need to make sure you are serious, otherwise somebody that was truly serious missed out on a custom order

Some dealerships require a credit check before an order is placed and again at delivery as a matter of policy. I think asking for some sort of deposit is just good business sense to make sure you're serious.

I'm happy to give a deposit, but have heartburn when a dealer says it's not refundable. I'm meeting with my dealer tomorrow and they know me. I'm going to ask that the refund ($500) be fully refundable or at a minimum I should get it back if they don't have my car within the next 3 months.
