I'm very new to owning a mustang and still can't believe I own my car every time I look at it. I'm having a to of fun and in the not so distant future want to mod it some. I have a few questions to ask here, what gears should I be researching for my 05 GT. I'm also curious as to what my HP is with this short list of mods I have now
-Intake
-Exhaust
-Tuned

Your gear of choice should depend on what you want in the end... You can probly get anything between 2.75 and 4.56, but you should figure out what you want and then pick the gear that gets you there.

 

I am only basing this on my experience and the fact that you seem new to powerful cars. I would say 3:73. It will give you that extra get up and go while still having easy driveabilty. As for power? I'd expect an addition 25whp with your mods depending on what you go with.

 

with those mods you should be around 280-290 RWHP, depending on canned tune or dyno time. The 05s came stock with 3.55 gears, so going to 3.73 would not be worth the money/time IMO. I would go with 3.90 or 4.10s. I put the 4.10s and mine and love them. The gears wont really add HP, but move your curve so it responds quicker.

 

I have heard from multiple people that I should get my mustang cammed. At what point should I do this and what kind of upgrades would anyone recomend before doing this. Thanks for all your help guys!

 

Hey Kyle, Welcome to the site. If you're from Fort Wayne, IN I recommend going to Brenspeed for all of your work. they also have great customer service that will help you with question about cams.. I believe they have developed their own cams in house.

 

Intake, exhaust, and tune are all great starters, cheap and you can do the work yourself.
Gears and heads/cams are best left to professionals, or those that think they are.

stay away from Brenspeed. I have had a couple phone calls and everyone was nothing but rude and useless. Lots of my buddies would agree with me. Stear far away form them. Except for when they have there free dyno day at the end of the season. CJ racing in Auburn is a good one. There are also a couple speed shops in Michigan (not to far away from our lake cottage) that are pretty good too. and btw, my "little" fox will always be faster. Ill just keep adding on.

 

You'll have a lot of disagreement there Hole, er, Kole. Most people on this forum have nothing but good things to say about Brent and his shop.

If I have had crappy service in the past, along with other friends of mine, then I have a right to have my own opinion. As do you. Have you ever been to his shop in person? Just wondering. Instead of bashing a company that's a site sponsor, and has been here much longer than you, why don't you try to give a specific example of how horrible they've been for you.

Like this, but my example is why I DO recommend them:

I had a problem with a different vendor here (won't bash them here, cause it's over and resolved, and I'm not a child). I emailed Brenspeed to see if they could help, they asked me to call, and spent nearly an hour the first time on the phone (without me paying them a dime) to try to figure it out. I then did end up buying a tune from them that worked perfectly, and they helped me to work out why I was having problems in the first place. Multiple quick, easy emails that were responded to promptly and courteously. Multiple other orders through them went just as well. And there are dozens on here that will say the same thing.

You're right, I don't live next to them, and have never been there. Maybe they've actually met you in person and experienced your cheery personality, and that's what's generated the responses you received.

Now instead of saying "me and my local buddies don't like them", why not give some constructive, useful feedback.
