Took my first lengthy drive in the 05 Mustang GT on Sunday. It was a journey of 170 miles to visit my daughter. The car performed flawlessly. It was smooth and just a real pleasure to drive. On the way home, coming down a long stretch of a not real busy interstate , a late model red Camaro pulled along side in the left lane. I am not well versed on Camaros, but it was '96 or later, had a v8 and dual exhaust. It had z28 markings on the fender, but I don't know if it was a real one. Anyway, the guy beeped his horn as he was pacing me and , with his right hand, pointed down the highway. Then he took off! Well, my mature brain said let the guy go. The new Mustang has nothing to prove and if there's a highway patrolman in the area, it could become very expensive...............but my right foot wouldn't listen to my brain. Just a second after the red Camaro took off, my foot was on the floor and the Mustang really took off. It did not take a long time, maybe 20 seconds, to catch and pass the Camaro. In another 20 seconds or so, my tail lights were all he could see. I slowed down to 70 and he came along side again, and this time saluted and gave the Mustang a thumbs up. Top speed during the short race, well, I looked at the speedometer after I passed him and it was about 125. I am sure it went faster before I let off, but it was time to drive way ahead at that point and let the speed take care of itself. The car was still very solid. As a footnote, I still averaged 24 miles per gallon for the trip as a whole, and the average speed for the trip was 64 mph. Now, you teens who may be reading this, don't do as the 55 year old did!

At 56, and not having a "suitable car" for such antics in a long, long time - I have given some thought to what limits I need to put on myself. Know I want to take it to the strip to just see what I can do (no doubt with the car), As for situations like you found yourself in, given good conditions, suitable traffic, a straight road where I can see the deer coming at me- think I am going to "indulge" myself once in awhile. HAD A BLAST DIDN'T YA ????????????
PS - Knew there was a reason I was banking all those good driving points!

HolderCA1; I based the "v8" on the Camaro on the fact that it had dual exhausts. Could see them as the guy first pulled in front of me......however, as I said in the beginning.....I don't know much about Camaros. this one, however, had a pretty good acceleration, but not as good as the Stang.

At least it was open highway and not city streets like some stupid people. I don't approve of any street racing "BUT" if you are going to do it, open roads are the way to go.
