I own the first Hybrid Mustang!

My private company has been working secretly with Ford over the last 3 years to develop a conversion kit for 05-09 Mustangs. It will be available through the FRPP catalog by Spring!

Details? Anybody can make their car "zero emissions"!

The kit will consist of:
-Offroad H pipe of your choice
-SLP loudmouth "mufflers"
-18" Stainless resonators with instructions on how to weld into your over axle pipes
-Ford part # 5M6Z-7842528-AA (name plate - HYBRID)
-Ford part # 5M6Z-7842528-BA (green leaf logo plate)
-Space age aluminum alloy drivers side headrest heat reflector. Required to deflect the stares of death and disgust from other highway drivers

You need to supply the heavy foot required to blast Prius owners with their windows rolled down

Just doing my part to save the planet!

I have designated Kevin as the official TMS hybrid conversion kit supplier. Contact him for details.

Watch 50resto.com will be selling these in their catalogs just like they ripped off my Honda S2000 start button idea

A couple of months after I got mine in Nov 04 , I received a letter from the State of Florida thanking me for purchasing a Hybrid car. Apparently Hybrid cars can use the HOV lanes on I95 anytime and it came with an application for the permit. I assumed it was a foul up , but I contacted them just to make sure that someone hadn't bought one in my name. I still have the letter and application , so technically I have the first one ...

Am I the only one here who thinks a true hybrid ("true" meaning PERFORMANCE) would be blast???

Think about it: 150hp at EACH wheel. No drive shaft issues. That nice little 300hp V8 to charge the batteries. You could still dump 600hp to the ground when you wanted to make a quarter mile run (or just toast that annoying Toyota hybrid. Or pretty much any other car on the road) any time you wanted to with good batteries. No drive shaft issues as you wouldn't have any drive shafts.

To top it off, you could have preprogrammed burnouts:
1) Standard rear wheel burnout with front wheel holding so you wouldn't overheat your rear brakes
2) Burnout fronts first, then the rears!
2) Fronts going in reverse, rears going normal for a VERY interesting burnout! Controlability might be an issue...
3) One wheel burnout at a time...

I guess technically, this is more like an electric transmission than what we call "hybrids". But I DO think it would be a blast to drive!

Oh, and just take a look at a brushless DC motor's torque curve. They pretty much can make peak torque stalled! Try that with your 3V engine... Do you know what that kind of torque curve would do for seat of the pants driving??

OXYMORON = HYBRID HUMMER

FLEX FUEL = Gas Got So expensive I had use FLEX PAY like on QVC to Fill up!

ELECTRIC CAR WARRANTY = 12/12 or as Soon as Car Drives far enough to pull extension cord out of wall.

I think that is the point Arrow. This particular hybrid is pretty much limited to the label!

You forget about the weight and heat issues. And, I doubt you would need a 4.6L generator .

True. But look at some of the weight you would be dumping: flywheel, clutch, transmission, driveshaft, axle, large brakes (regenerative braking would allow for much smaller disk brakes), etc.

And the whole point of the 4.6L power plant is to make SURE I could ALWAYS dump down at LEAST 300 hp, no matter what...

The weight of those BLDC motors is coming down all the time. I remember reading about a prototype motor back in the early 90s that could put out 100 hp and it weighed 25 lbs! (Of course, I still haven't see that thing in production yet either...) How much do oversized brake disks and calipers weight? LiPo battery packs are also pretty light for their power density. Plus, because it IS a hybrid, you would not need as large of battery packs as you would for a pure electric.

No matter what, it WOULD be fun to play with.
