Ok, I don't have much time so I am going to be short and to the point. I am a college grad (this year) and I have been set on the 2005 ever since I saw it. I want the car and I have some patience as to when I can get it this year (for the most part). However my parents just called me and told me that they are buying a new car and they are totally set on the 2004 Mustang...Fine and whatever with that. Anyway I am going to the dealer with them when they buy it and I want to talk to the dealer regarding my future investment. My question to you all is what kind of leverage should I be trying to use? Should I try to ensure a good price when I get my own, or should I try to ensure that I get one of the early ones in October with some price frame in mind? I am going tomorrow afternoon. Your feedback is appreciated.

Thanks

Ask Kevin, but I doubt your not going to get your 05 for under msrp (at least not right away). If you wait a while there may be some rebates or incentives of some type. If you want one of the first ones you won't be able to haggle. If you wont pay manufacturers suggested retail on the first shippment of mustangs then someone else will.

EDIT: Just don't pay over MSRP!

I agree that getting it under MSRP might be difficult. But when I placed my order, I was promised to get it for just over invoice. It's nice to find a good dealer and stick with 'em -- even if I have to drive 50 miles to get there, it's worth it.

Kev, I also will be graduating in December and will be buying a new 2005 around that time. Do you know if the 400 will apply to the new 05s?

yea, there is no real "leverage", someone else will simply buy it.

I am curious .. are your parents going to the dealer to buy their own 04 Mustang, and is your question whether or not you try and introduce the purchase of your 05 Mustang at the same time ? Assuming your parents are going for the '04 ... you have some really hip parents with good taste in cars hehehe.. Back to topic, I bet you should be able to get some sort of reasonable deal for both cars if that is what you are trying to achieve.

I live in Canada. Canadians get $1000 off a new ford vehicle. And by the looks of the rules, it doesn't say anywhere that a 2005 Mustang in not applicable. Read for yourselves.

Thanks
