Hi.. I went to a dealership a lot of times to see in person the new Mustang. I asked the salesman if I could order a V8 Stang with manual transmission and red leather seats but he said to me that "Ford Mexico only sells the manual transmission without leather seats". So I got really angry because i'm in love with those red seats, and unfortunalety, i can have them.

Do you think that I could buy the leather seats in the U.S.? I live 2 hours from Laredo, Texas and 2:30 from Mc Allen, and I WANT to have them¡¡¡¡ Do you think that some dealership could sell the seats as an accesory or something??

Thanks!

I would doubt thats true. They are coming from the same plant, so I don't see why they would be limited.

Why not just buy the car from a dealership in the US?

It's just that the taxes for importation in Mexico are really high !!! If I get the car in the U.S. it would be like 15 or 20 % more expensive. BTW... they said that they only import V8 Mustangs and, in order to differenciate from each other, they only offer Leather in the Premium version (automatic only). That's why i hate Ford Mexico... if i have the money to order red seats, why I could'nt get them !!!

That salesman HAS TO be wrong. Try a different dealer, see what they say.

Looking at the Ford Mexican website, what he says seems to be correct.

If anything, get the manual car, and buy the red leather seats off ebay or a salvage yard, or a US dealer.

Perhaps you can get the red leather seat covers through the aftermarket or throught the supplier that makes them.

Yeah, I just checked out the Ford Mexico site, you have very limited choices, you get to pick to have a "GT base with MT" or "GT Equipado VIP (or premium) with AT", then you pick your exterior and interior colors.

Buy the car in Mexico, make sure the seats are the same as far as design for cloth or leather. Once your car arrives order the leather seat material from Ford US and have it shipped. Now having said that you need six skins 1 for each base and 1 for each back. Your cost from a local upolstry shop would be less than Ford. I bet Ford would be 2,000 where local I bet would be half.

Do you think that I could get the original leather in the aftermarket??? I went to a German upholstery shop and he said that he could find the exact pattern, but i doubt it... If you have any news about this topic, I would appreciate it a lot !!!!
Thankss

Who is the tier #1 supplier of the seats Johnson Controls?
If we could figure that out, we could contact the plant and see about ordering them direct. There are some hurdles, but if you get in contact with the right person - thats your best way around the bureaucracy.

The front passenger seat has an occupant classification sensor - so you need to be sure that it still works correctly after mods or your friend may not be protected, God forbid the system is ever employed.

Isn't that 7 skins? The seat backs are split, right?

Oh, and get the red door panel material and the red floor mats to complete the set!

Mexican laws specifically prohibit Mexican citizens from owning a foreign built car IF the same car is available in Mexico. The exception is if you live within 70 km from the border, but even then you have to pay for some paperwork ( a % of the car's value) and even then you can only drive cars that are 5 years, or more, old or trucks that are 1 year or older. AND, you can't take them past the 70 km zone without leaving a big deposit for the vehicle, which you get back, minus some fees, once you return to within the 70 km zone. You can also import the car, but the import fees are somewhere above the 50% of the car's value. If the authorities catch you driving an American car, without the proper paper work, they have every right to take the car away from you. (An uncle of mine lost his 70 something Camaro that way) You will never get the car back since it automaticaly becomes government property. Most of the time the car never makes it to the impound since crooked cops keep the confiscated car for their own profit.

Cars in Mexico are ridiculously expensive too. My car was ~$17k (base 03' V6) here, in Mexico the same car was about $30k

According to the NAFTA, since 2004 you can import a new car paying the taxes and all that stuff... but as someone said, the sensors are very important and I hope that both of them are the same. If someone knows where can I find the leather please let me know !!!

Thanks!!
