This is a bit of a story so enjoy or ignore. It just feels good to tell someone.

As I'm sure all Clean and Unscheduled Club Members have, I've been scouring the dealerships around my area (Chicagoland) hoping for a miracle that I'd find the car I've ordered just sitting on a lot waiting for me to drive home in it. In my constant search of the local inventories, yesterday I finally came across the Mecca of Mustang dealers, Webb Ford in Wheaton. They had three, yes three, Torch Red GT convertibles waiting to be sold, one with IUP and everything I wanted. After talking to the owner of the dealership it seems he's been scouring the country picking up cars and flatbedding them to him. Depening on the cost he's been tacking on a premium up to $6,000 (or so he says). Anyway I put him off till today, tell him I can only handle $1,000 or $2,000 over (worth it for my sanity after Ford's order process) He agrees on $2,000 and I take the train downtown from my office out to the dealer. The owner picks me up at the train in a beutiful, silver, 2005 Saleen. We pull into his dealership (never been by it) and there's two more 2005 Saleen's on my left and a Roush being prepped to be delivered. Mustang heaven. We walk in to the showroom and there's a Ford GT right smack dab in the middle. I'm in and out in 30 minutes driving the hour or so back to my house. On the way I called the dealer I ordered with in January to give him the bad news. He congratulated me and refunded my $1,000 deposit. The only think keeping this from being the perfect day is that it was raining, so she went straight into the garage. All I could pull was this quick confirmation pick

Now the fun begins.

Hehe, I just checked the sticker and it says that this car was originally sold to Amite City Ford in Amite LA. So he did flat bed it up here. It only had 8 miles on it when I rolled it out.

Congrats on the new ride! No more waiting. As my wife said, I wish this car would come in already so we could get on with our lives! (it showed up on 4/25).

My story is very similar. After being C/U since 12/10/04 the wife finally hit the breaking point. She said she was'nt waiting any longer, that she was going to go buy another Nissan. I started calling every dealer that was within driving distance. Low and behold at 7:30pm I found the exact car we had ordered at a dealer about 100 miles away. At first I thought the salesman was just trying to get me up there to sell me whatever he had. I made him read me the window sticker. It was the right car!! I ask what time they closed, 9:00pm. I told him it would be between 9:30 and 10 before I could get there. He said he would wait on us. Turns out that a guy ordered the car, it had arrived the day before. He came in to get it that morning and his financeing fell through. My wife called it "divine intervention". At 5 minutes after midnight we drove it off the showroom floor. It had the extra sticker, you know the one with +$2000 on it. He never mentioned it. He just said up front on the phone that the price is sticker price. When I ask him about the "markup" he said that they had not actually added that to any they had sold. He said they used it as a sales/marketing tool. When other dealers demand over sticker and customers come there complaining, they would just immedialtely ditch the mark up and give the customer a warm fuzzy feeling.
Sorry about the length here.

WHY? Why would you give in to the demands of a dealer holding a car "hostage"!....WAKE UP PEOPLE!! The sooner you get over this obsession to be the first on your street to own the '05 Mustang, the better it will be for all of us that wait impatiently. If no one buys these vehicles, the price will drop and soon! RESIST...RESIST,I tell you!

Glad you got your car but you're another reason why dealers feel like they can mark things up. Must be nice to have extra money to blow. If you paid me $2k over sticker for mine I'd rent a Ford GT to pick you up. lol

Dude, this just isn't happening. Deal with the situation as it exists. It's here to stay until the supply catches up with demand on this thing. I predict somewhere in the mid '06MY.

Congrats to you, enjoy youre new car, So what if you paid a little over sticker, I tell you Ford has some loyal customers, I am in the same boat, have been looking all over the place for a sonic blue GT, w/IUP and Bullets, no luck, well almost no luck I had found one in Charlotte NC, they want close to 30k, I refuse to pay it, so still C/U for now, but if I found my car I would consider paying a little over sticker at this point, Fords ordering process blows..

A touching story! Glad you found your car! I too found my car on a dealer lot back in November. This just proves that these car are out there on dealer lots, you just have to look hard for them.

I haven't found one Mustang yet (in or around Vancouver, Canada) that is marked up above MSRP. It's amazing that dealers can get away with this south of the boarder.

Anyone know how it is back east (in Canada)

Congratulations on the purchase, I bet you can't wait to drop the top on a nice warm day and just blast off!

for you!

Another Vert among us. This sure has been the Vert month so far. Actually, we have gotten a bunch of TMS Stangs added to the stable this month period (vert AND fastback). I love it when a TMSer who has been waiting finally gets theirs.

The story is great and the car is sweet. Have fun. :drive:

Life's way too short for all of us......and certainly not guaranteed beyond today. I say if you want it...can afford it...then get it, even at a premium. The fruits of our labor, so to speak.

Congrats on the car! Shame you paid the markup - you prolly could've gotten it wiped, depending upon how you sounded when you called the dealer.

Happy motoring!

Actually, I would be the THIRD in my neighborhood.

I'm still searching, but I will probably have to change my signature to a 2006.
