The point of not adding anti-seize to the threads is that if you do need to remove them using a penetrating oil that it might not work it's way down. It's good to see a thread like this because I really think a lot of guys make a bigger deal out this than it needs to be. By the way, did you use nickel anti-seize? I pull my plugs at about 10,000 miles and inspect. I've never had a problem with any of my 3Vs done like this.

The plugs look even worse because of the penetrating oil otherwise they wouldn't look so bad.
They are still going to have the carbon on them. I'm running breathers on my car and still get plenty of carbon on my plugs when I pull them, it's quite normal.

So the 1-piece plugs have less of a chance of snapping then the 2 piece ones do? I always dreaded changing my spark plugs because I was afraid they would snap on me.

Hey Matt, no worries. VistaBlue is not going ANYWHERE!! She's my baby, and means ALOT to me. Without my Mustang, I would have never met my girlfriend as our paths would never have crossed at a car show back in 2008 (she came with her 2007 GT/CS). I'm not getting an '11, but I'm saving up for a 2014 50th Anniversary GT Coupe. To me, that is going to be something REALLY special!!!

I have an 06 that I bought with 25k on it, it's now close to 45k. Did Ford do a recall for this issue? If so how would I know if it got fixed? What happens if the plug breaks? Do you have to pull the head?

Do a search. Long story short: No recall. If plug breaks, they have have a tool that *may* extract it, but if that doesn't work, you'll have to pull the heads

Good write-up Jeff, as I too am about to tackle the Fuel Filter on mine once I get it back, good to know it wasnt a hard job.
But man did those plugs look BAD!
