HVAC Adjustments?
Does anyone with an 05 service manual know if there are any adjustments that can be performed on any of the heater blend doors? Are they all controlled by non-adjustable electric servo motors? As with some on this site I'm getting very little increased airflow to the floor when switching from defrost/floor to straight floor mode. I've gone to the dealer briefly just to mention the problem to which the service rep replied it may be just a blend adjustment, which I don't think there is one. He said he'd check for possible tsb's but hasn't replied yet. Any breakdown parts pictures of the HVAC assy out there?

It seems to be a common problem.. read through this thread for more info

There was a TSB for this but it seems it has disappeared. I remember it stated:
"Do not attempt to fix this, as the engineers are working on a fix"
Then I read somewhere that they removed the TSB and now say it's supposed to do this.
BS!

I took a look under the drivers dash area today. The floor outlet basically dumps straight towards the steering column rather high under the dash. I think the outlet should be redesigned to direct air more downwards towards the firewall, including the small 1/2-3/4" hole already there, that's directed towards the throttle, it might give the foot area a quicker warmup. Right now all the heats being blown center dash height, with the heat rising upward. By the time it heats all the area under the dash and floor area combined, the air coming from the upper dash is way to hot for your face. You want to turn it down but your feet are still cold.
I still believe though, the floor/defrost blend ratio is way off, favoring the defrost side. It should be near non-existant in the floor mode.

My feet are still cold while my face is nice and toasty.
I've had mine only two weeks and that was the only complaint I had to the dealer. They said they checked with Ford and supposedly they fixed the problem in the 06's. No question that the defroster get's too much air vs. the feet.

Would you look under the dash and see if the air is still directed to the steering column rather than down. Thanks

Sorry it took so long, but yes it still does. I'm thnking that this summer I might make something to attach to help it along!

on cold days once glass is cleared off, select floor+dash and close dash vents- this shuts the defrost completely off, warms floor right up(ductwork seems adequate). only problem is windshield can fog back up.with fan at 3 or lower blower wont whistle- still warms floor area quickly.
I just bought a ford service manual cd, might tear into the dash a bit when it arrives- obviously its a blend door control issue- I'm assuming vacuum control actuators could be moved/adjusted a bit to correct this- or maybe the vacuum selector itself is at fault...

It is all electric. No adjustments possible. This is a feature designed into the HVAC.
I know at least new GM vehicles are doing the same thing. It's just supposed to help keep the windshield clear. Personally, I like it, and I wish my other car had it.

two things-
first if its electrical- cool...thats kinda what I do
second- as far as keeping windshield clear, yes it needs some defrost- but mine(and many others)seem to get very very little heat under the dash from floor vents, and full defrost. we were a fair way from home one night, very cold outside, kids in the back complaining about cold, my feet were freezing, yet wife and I were roasting from the defroster...like I said found closing dash vents, using dash+floor heats the footwells(and seemed to push heat to rear from under seats) but windshield will fog up- gotta keep fiddling with selector.
the idea might have been some defrost bypass, but either controls are wrong, or they totally messed up the amount of bypass...its more like a 5-10% floor bypass. maybe some cars are ok- mine is not one of them.

Your right it's nice to have electronic controls. However, if the control says "floor" it should be just "floor" with say 95/05 floor. "Floor/defrost" setting with say 65/35 floor/defrost and "defrost" with say 90/10 defrost/floor settings. The way it feels on "floor" right now to me is 40/60 floor/defrost. I drove home the other day on the highway in -30 weather for about 20 miles and never did get warm feet but my face was was too hot. This, I forsee, would be an expensive fix for Ford, since any plenum/door changes would probably require removing the HVAC system assy, so I can't see them addressing the problem with a tech bulletin. I guess if enough people make warranty defects they might address the problem, but they might not get much customer pressure since most don't drive their stangs in the winter. Oh well, another 2 months and winter will be over for me.
