ok, i installed my hurst, and its not facing the same way as it shows it on the website.... mine leans backward towards the driver, and on the website they have it leaning forward towards the dash....

the stick has a slight bend in it for those of you that have not seen one in person...

i dont have a picture of mine, but i have it facing the other way.

is there a right way? when putting it in i just installed it like that cause thats how i figured it should go...

Re-check the directions. There IS a long side vs. a short side where you bolt the handle on. It DOES matter.

 

well i have the shifter stick in the right way, but you can bolt the actual shaft in facing fore or aft. mine points aft

well crap, now i cant find the picture of it facing foreward... i cant remember the website i ordered it from... oh well

i did install the shifter the same way the old one was. and i did notice that there was a long and short end on the tip of the shifter. if that makes any sense

based on what i have seen on all the websites, it doesnt matter which way you install the actual chrome hurst stick..... but i did get the shifter installed the right way.. i made sure of that

 

Mine has grooves on one side that fit the grooves of the shifter arm. I have a Hurst handle on a Pro 5.0 shifter so it doesn't really matter IMO which way you mount it.

 

Per the Hurst short shifter install manual...

"Be sure that serration's on upper stick, engage serration's on stick bottom."

You'll notice that the chrome (upper stick) shifter has a series of "serrations," and these need to face the black (stick bottom) shifter.

 

both sides of the hurst chrome stick have those grooves....

 

Whatever you think looks and feels the best.

 

i like it tilted back. feels good and looks good i think

 

both sides of the chrome stick has the grooves, however one side has reliefs cut into the stick around the mounting holes for the lock washer to sit into ,thus it is designed to be installed with the curve in the handle tilting back

 

Hey GrayPny, not to highjack the thread, but where did you get the billet power plug with the pony emblem? I like it and I have lost the factory plug.

this site shows all the parts layed out: the shifter, the chrome stick, the white ball the screws, WHAT IS THE LITTLE RUBBER OVAL THING? Nowhere in the instructions does it say to install it????

Thanks you sir. Install complete. Is it just mine or is the hurst shifter a little offcentered to the left half of the shift box?

 

I installed mine a couple of weeks ago as per instructions and it just didn't seem right.

According to instructions the grooves on the billet arm had to line up with the grooves on the black metal shifter assembly, but this put the handle to the left and actually rubbed against the left of the console at the base of the boot, and the arm was slanted forward.

I found a link on this site (don't remember link or post) that said the instructions were incorrect per customer service/technical support. On the underside of the shifter as per instructions the part that connects to the transmission link has a long and a short side and the long side should face the passenger side, but it should actually be on the driver side. You have to disconnect this bolt under the car and turn this around. This puts the grooves on the black metal bar that the billet arm attaches to with the two bolts on the passenger side. The handle then attaches toward the passenger side, the handle arm will then be leaning back, and the whole assembly then appears to be centered and correct from above.

 

The directions that come with the hurst shifter have 1 step wrong that causes the shifter to lean toward the drivers side. It will function but its still wrong. check the instructions at this link http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2...fter/index.php

Pic #25 on page 2 of the guide shows that the bolts that hold the upper part of the shifter need to point to the PS of the car. If you follow the hurst directions to the letter they will point to the DS. just hop under the car pull the bolt out and rotate the shifer 180. Hope this helps.

 

No wonder i had a tough time removing the bolts, the allen wrench was too big to take the bolts out from the drivers side. So all i have to do is rotate the black shifter that you connect the handle 180 degrees?
