Thumbs up

A dealer I am working with is asking $500 over the dealer invoice price, to order me my Mustang.

This is my order...

GT Coupe Premium w/ IUP, ICAP, Anti-Theft, Upgraded Wheels, & Locking Lugs...plus Dest & Delivery ($625), Cal. Board Fees ($0.65), U.S. Gal Gas ($22.55), and FDAF Assessment ($240). Total Invoice = $25,380.20. Add in the $500 and I am going to be paying $25,880.20. This is about $1,600 under MSRP. I told the dealer I could get that same deal somewhere else, so he threw in 2 years of free maintanence as well. Is this a good deal? I gave them a $500 deposit after I saw a signed purchase agreement.

For those that are not getting a special X/A/Z etc... plan, how much over invoice are you paying?

I'm paying 500 over invoice too. I think mine came out to 25,808. I'm happy with that, especially since some got stuck with MSRP or more.

Im paying MSRP. When I placed my pre order before the order bank was open, I was affraid dealers were going to want over MSRP so I was satisfied with MSRP. Guess I should have waited. I got an x-plan hook up that I won't be able to use

$500 over invoice here too. I went to 3 dealers, the 2 that I'm not ordering from wouldn't sell for anything less than MSRP.

So it's just that easy? Go in, tell someone "I want my Mustang this way, $500 over, or else I kick you in the Ding Ding, AND I walk." and they do it?

No way.

Shut up.

Get out.

Take off, eh?

Like I said before, most likely the earliest buyers will get the best price. I don't think dealers realize what they have coming. You've already seen some people have the dealers flat out change thier minds, make sure you get it in writing, and signed by more then just a sales associate.

another common price strategy is 'out the door' for a given ammount. Like if the msrp is $27,800 then out the door for say $28,000. With Va 3% tax and dealers fees thats about $1300 off msrp.

Which doesn't sound that bad, considering that there's not a lot of margin in Mustangs between invoice and MSRP. I only question the charge for gas. Every dealer I've talked to fills the tank upon purchase without charge. But it's an insignifanct amount, so I'm not going to quibble there. Just thought I'd mention it.

And 3% VA sales tax sure beats what we get to cough up in California.

Visited my dealer tonight. He indicated they've been "delayed" but didn't go into detail about it. Told me straight out they're going for MSRP and there won't be any negotiations with that. There are also 7 other guys waiting for the first load. Looks like I'll be using all 305 I've got in the '97 Cobra to get there before everyone else!
