how many miles between synthetic oil change?

i was getting ready to switch to synthetic mobil 1 and was wondering how many miles between oil changes we should do. i drive 60 percent hwy miles. i heard if you change every three thousand with synth. that it actually could be bad. is this right. i here that every 5 to 6,000 miles is about right to change oil. correct? thanks!

Every 3000.? Not bad but expensive and a waste of oil that is still good. Like tossing your tires because the first 1/16" of tread is worn off.

Mobil 1 Extended Performance is now branded with the API Starburst, so it meets Fords requirements. Mobil brag that it is good for 15,000, but I would not run it past 12,000 or 12 months, which ever comes first. To complement the oil, use the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter. Probably one of the best on the market. While they brag it too is good for 15,000, I chage my filters at 3000 to 4000 mile intervals and top off.

I have been running the Mobil 1 in two of my other cars at 12,000 mile oil change intervals. Both are well over 100,000 miles w/o any problems or increase in oil consumption.

In my stang i would run synthetic about 10-12k miles. but make sure to check your oil every 3000 or so to top it off it some is getting burned off and stuff.

8k or one year, whatever comes first for Mobil1. For me, it'll always be 1 year.

5000 miles or every 4 months. I change mine every 4 months just because I don't get 5000 miles on it before then.

I wouldn't pay any extra for the "extended performance" version. You should be able to get 10K out of regular Mobil1 if you are driving 60% highway. And I would stick with the Motorcraft filter. That should last you just fine for the entire 10K, at only $3.50 compared to $10 for the M1 filter. If you are weary about it, change the filter at 5K, then oil change at 10K.

Think about it. The 3000 mile oil change slogan was developed how many years ago? With engines that still used nasty carburators, leaded gas, and ancient oil technology...and that was for conventional oils. Synthetics didn't even exist then. Think of how much cleaner cars run now, how much oil technology in general has improved, and now with synthetics...3000 miles is a thing of the past. The only thing that has kept it around is the quickie lube places that love the business.

I change my oil once a year in my Vette...and I put about 3K miles on her in a year (I used to change it every six months)...the Mobil 1 coming out looks clean as a whistle...the 1yr/15K interval is fine. I change the Stang's every 3K miles or every six months (5-20 Motorcraft semi-synthetic)...I've never had a problem.

5 to 6k is to soon and a waist unless you hit the one year mark.

70,000 miles?? Do you mean 7,000 miles? Either way, you can switch to synthetic at any time with no problems. Old rumors die hard.

and just to point out, once you go full synthetic you cannot switch back. conventonal oil will not grip onto anything after synthetic has been used.

What? Where did you hear that? Not true. Totally not true. Yet another myth about synthetics that continues to run amok even though there is not a shred of truth about that statement.

The reason for 3,000 miles is to have the other fluids check also tires brakes ,ect? For those of you still under warentee you should follow the maint. guide. Why give the dealer an easy out!! If your oil is clean after 3,000 change the filter add to full. Can you imagion having Ford s/w telling you one thing and Mobil telling you something else!! Mobil Dealer 30Years. Remember most of the car on this sight have been mod. up grades which may change the air/fuel ,may not be as clean as you think? The Mobie One products are in my op. the best and used all of them since 1976 in all my veh. and air compressers. no engine failures.

Thanks for your help guys. I average about 8k-9k miles a year. With Mobil One, I'll be saving some money on oil changes for sure.
