How long should I wait till I run it in the 1/4 Mile?

My 08 GO GT Auto has just over 1400 miles on it. I want to run it soon at the 1/4 Mile Track. Should I wait a little while longer? Or just go for it? It is still in stock trim.

you dont have to worry about breaking it in first, thats all done for you from the factory

you flog her to death right of the showroom floor... and shouldnt hurt a thing.

Modern cars don't really require the traditional break-in run-around. They're pretty much good to go right off the truck.

I planned on running it stock... but I just ordered Steeda LCA`s and planning to Order a C&L racer intake with SCT 3 and a Bama Tune later today. I have until Friday July 11th to get it all installed for the NHRA Street Legal Night at the Texas Motorplex.

Not so sure you needed those LCAs with the stock torque converter in there. You're not gonna break loose like you would with a stick

And the JLT has bigger gains over the C&L so I would consider that instead. Besides the C&L and C&L racer was proved to have no measurable difference in power gains, just a hit in the wallet.

Well 1/8 mile times were best 9.22 2.26 60FT 78.34 MPH That was shifting it manual. I did leave it in D 2 times 9.38 9.47. Seems to shift early In D with OD off TCS off. I had a couple bad runs trying to shift from 2 to 3rd. Over shifted. There is a bid delay once you put in 3. With TCS on in D off Idle launch it went 9.43 at 77.39 2.36 60 foot. It was 93 to 90 degrees at the time of runs. It hooked fine but a couple of runs it spun for 2 sec then hooked. Best 60 foot was 2.23 Loaded up at 1800 or so. I hope with the tune I can get it to stay in D and shift at 6 or 6100. We will see if with the Tune if the Times are better next Friday at the 1/4 Mile.

Hey, sorry to threadjack, but does anyone know if there is a big difference between shifting at 5900 and shifting at say, 6100? Do we see a big improvement from shifting a little later?

I have an aftermarket tune, but I set my rev limiter down to 6000. Sometimes I like to bounce off the rev-limiter while I turn, and I figured it would be safer if I wasn't actually red-lining it when I did that..

You too? lol

Mine was kinda unintentional, tho. When I picked up mine, I was leaving the dealership and you have to cross over the median of a highway. I was so enamored with my new 'Stang that I wasn't really paying attention and I sorta...well...pulled out in front of a speeding semi. Heard the horns and floored my baby....I quickly knew I was in love!

I left stripes when I left the dealer for the first time. Mine was very MUCH intentional! But I have always been a believer in breaking them in quickly. And they HAVE to see redline when they are young, or they might get afraid of it!!!!

I was at the track before 1,000 miles on my last three Mustangs. Break them in as you intend to drive them long term.

The tune will cure your 2-3 shift delay, plus it'll firm up the shifts, allow you to shift at a higher rpm (in drive or manually), eliminate throttle lag, add 20-30hp, etc. With more power will come a need for more traction. Don't forget to buy drag radials. Also, automatics really like more gearing (3.73's or 4.10's preferred) and stall converters will help your short times.

For comparison, I grabbed my old timeslips for my 07 GT automatic coupe when it was 100% stock, except 4.10 gears and DiabloSport tuner with their canned tune for 93 octane. Stock airbox, stock exhaust, factory tires, etc. Best timeslip...

2.006 = 60' ET
5.635 = 330' ET
8.620 = 1/8 mile ET
82.59 = 1/8 mile mph

11.209 = 1000' ET

13.404 = 1/4 mile ET
102.92 = 1/4 mile mph

Added a 3,800 rpm stall converter and drag radials, ran an improved best of...

1.806 = 60' ET
5.343 = 330' ET
8.317 = 1/8 mile ET
82.37 = 1/8 mile mph

10.900 = 1000' ET

13.090 = 1/4 mile ET
103.40 = 1/4 mile mph

Looks like better times. 4 tenths improvement in the 1/8 is pretty good. Did you change the tune for higher shift points? Looks like cooler weather may have helped, as well, as your improved mph indicates more horsepower being made.

I'm jealous of these 14's and 13's. Of course i'm running in 90 degree weather at close to 4,000 elevation. Looks like the tune really is worth it. What kind of tune are you running coair?
