maby this is a dumb question but are raidar detectors illegal???? Or are they only illegal when in the on position??? I need to know this before I install one. Plus I have merely gotten lucky all my teenage years till now that i have only had 2 speeding tickets and I have been driving for 5 years.
only in DC and Virginia

Thanks for figuring out the wiring for us, Dustin! Hardwired my radar detector yesterday (and also used the solid black wire as the ground). Took all of five minutes due to the write-up here and it works great!

If I have time today I'm going to try and fab a bracket for it that mounts to the driver side sunvisor mounting holes.

I didn't want to put it on the divers side because a cop will see it if you get pulled over

Do you leave your radar detector up all the time? Or do you take it down when you get out of the car?

Some people do, some people don't. I have a $400 V1. It kinda bothers me that the only thing protecting it is some very breakable glass...

I want to hardwire my V1, but I know if I do, I'll just get very lazy and leave it up all the time. Just seeing what other people do...

It's hard to see it up that high

It's not easy to see like it is in your center lower window. Unless I'm in a real bad area I don't take it out.

Is this black wire in the power clip that Dustin originally unplugged, or is it one of the other back wires not part of the power clip?
Thanks, Dave

Hardwired mine last night, Dustin thanks for the write up. Incase anyone has a Cobra, Cobra sells the kit on there Website for 7.00 bucks, total 10.00 and change aftr tax and shipping.

Dustin do you have any problems getting 360 coverage mounted in that location?

Hi all

I have just wired my V1 as per the instructions above (great job btw, thank you) but wondered how long till the v1 turns off as the lights go off in the car after I lock it up but the v1 still appears to be on or do I need to turn it off myself at the end of the day? Any idea?

Thank you

Stu
