You should be able to wire it the same way, but I don't know what kind of current it will draw. If it pops a fuse, you can try putting a larger amperage fuse in the fuse box.

that`s not such a good idea.. you might over load the wire and start a fire...

Plan to hard wire mine into the map light also and see no need for extra fuse or switch. When is the last time you saw one of these short out? I never have. I plan to take mine down when not in use so I will just leave the plug on the end of the wire and disconnect. Not going to give anyone reason to break the window to steal it. Great info and photos Dustin. Thanks On second thought I will just take it to CC and spend $20 and watch TV while they are doing it. Might as well do the Explorer too.

Buy the Escort cordless radar detector. can be placed anywhere, has an auto off if not in motion. Mute button right on top, easy to get to. Run with rechargable batteries. Can purchase a cord for hard wire option. Best of all worlds in my opinion

I used the yellow wire lug. Not sure of the size but they're standard. By the way I have a ton of these crimp connectors lying around, including the t-tap and spade connectors. If anybody would like some mailed to you free. PM me and I'll stick em in an envelope and mail them. No big deal.

One more thing, I moved the location of the mute button to the left side of the mirror. This is really nice since the red flashing warning light will be in your face and really gets my attention when it goes off. When I have the radio loud or windows down, I can never hear the detector on max volume setting.

Here's a picture of the detector from the outside. It hides really well and you can hardly notice it. Those 2 velcro strips there on my window are for my EZ-Pass. I suggest if you do this mod to your car, take the EZ-pass down when not using the tolls because it is in the way of the detector. Besides it looks stupid in your window anyway.

maby this is a dumb question but are raidar detectors illegal???? Or are they only illegal when in the on position??? I need to know this before I install one. Plus I have merely gotten lucky all my teenage years till now that i have only had 2 speeding tickets and I have been driving for 5 years.
