No bananas yet, but you might want to pick them to have them ripe in time

We are trying to decide how to go one way 350 miles to pick up our Mustang.

It would be nice not have to drive back in 2 cars when our Mustang GT is ready, we have family in the area that can drive us to the dealer but how are we going to get there? How would you do it as a family of 3, our girl is 4 years old. It easy to see why we are a car nation the alterative seems so hard. What is it like on Amtrak, how is it to bus?

I guess it depends on how fussy the wife and kid can be on long drives? If it was just me and my wife it would be a no-brainer, we'd just drive there and get it.

We routinely go that far to California on weekends, 5-6 hours in a car isn't a big deal to us. But I can imagine having a four year old can be difficult.

Do you have a laptop? If you do, get a car charger for it, and she can watch DVD's the entire trip. That'll keep her occupied.

I couldn't help but notice $900 to go 350 miles!!! Jeez!

Fortuneately I can fly last minute for no more than $80 bucks a pop to L.A and San Diego, and when they're having deals I can do it for $29. flights leave every half hour between 2 airlines. Must be flying to an off the beaten path location for that kind of price.

Voted WindStar.
Seems it would be better to share the Experience.

My son has volunteered to drive the SporTrac 150 miles
to my Dealers to pick up the Mustang.

We Might share driving duties on the way back,
IF he can catch me. :drive:

Rent the Taurus! No need to drive two cars back when there is plenty of room for a 4yr old in the Mustang. If she gets fussy then hit the gas. My kids love it when I get on it a little(not high speed runs but, run it up thru the gears). You'll have to get off the highway to do it but, it'll be good for the break in too. A bus will take you about a week(it seems) to go 350 miles and $900 is too much to fly. Never ridden on a train except in Germany and I'm sure it doesn't compare.

If the prices are equal (and looks like they are), I'd rent the car one way. Keeps the miles off your minivan, and gives you some people to talk to on the ride back home.

Unless you'd rather drive it back by yourself

Ask your local dealer about drop shipping the car and see if you can pick it up at the local ford dealer for about the same price as renting.

If that doesn't work out rent the car go by yourself and have a fun ride on the way back.

We drove the LX 525 miles to pick up my wife's '05 GT. But then, at least we both had Mustangs to drive home. Best of luck with your new 'Stang!

Another option is to have it drop shipped to your closest local dealer. Cost about $300.

700 miles = about 9+ hours of driving (when you could be doing something more fun). I'd pay an extra $200 to avoid that.

We didn't look at shipping it since we have family up there, including my brother in-law that is getting us z (or is it x plan?). It will be nice to see and thank them.

I enjoy hearing that others drove to get their Mustang. Sleeping in the u-haul story is priceless.

Thanks

I'd rent one way............If you take your personal vehicle you and your wife will have to flip a coin to see who drives the Mustang home.

Rent a car, spend time with family, then all of you can cruise home in your Mustang. It will be a great trip and one you'll always remember. Where do you have to go to pick it up?
