drifting does look both cool and like a awful lot of fun...but is it just me, or was that car really going around that circle AWFULLY slow? mighta been the perspective, but from the looks of it a non-tire shredding minivan coulda passed on the outside

That's why drifting is not a competitive way to run a fast lap on a track. If drifting was so fast, why don't any pro drivers do it? At least no pros on pavement...dirt tracks are different.

The drifters are actually awarded points for constant tire spinning around the curves, quicker times and the style they approach and complete the event.
They have had some NASCAR drivers like Bill Elliot try this and he seemed to enjoy it.

cool vid, drifting isnt my favorite form of racing, but I can watch it. Definately great car control.
