HotToppers on my exposed underhood bolts

So, I went to the Harley shop and bought (30) 1/4" and (26) 5/16" HotTopper bolt covers. I put them on every exposed bolt I could see. As best I can tell, I need about 6 more of each size. They look better than the exposed bolts. I put them on with heat resistant RTV. $1.15 for the small ones and $1.50 for the larger.

I think I missed some of them marking them w/yellow so you could see them. My camera don't do great on underhood pics.

Hi Donna,

Where did you get those. I'm lookng online and the best Price I can see is $1.95 each, and that's not including shipping. The price you quoted was 40% less.

The covers that I purchased from Mustangs Unlimited:

The strut bolt covers came from CJ Pony Parts.

RTV - Room Temperature Vulcanizing rubber. It is a sealant usually, liquid in the tube, vulcanizes ( hardens ) at room temperature when exposed to air.

I got some chrome bolt head caps from my local Autozone. They look like this and the price was around $5 for a six pack.

These didn't require any RTV. Instead, a triangular plastic retainer is slid over the bolt head, then the chrome cap press fits over it.

I only have these on my MRT hood struts and they look great! Click here for pics.

On the same theme, I went to lowes and got some polished nuts that look similar and covered my strut bolts and center strut nut. I painted the real nuts first to match (black) and the one's for the BMR brace (red) and used clear silicone to attach them.

Good Idea Donna going to HD shop.....never thought of that one.

Donna, Are the topper you got plastic? Have they held up with heat?

yes the hot toppers are plastic.ive been using them on my harley for almost a year.no problems as of yet.they are designed to mount on the motor so heat should not be an issue.
