Hood popped doing 80 on highway

Anyone ever have this one happen? Was doing a solid 80-85 for 15 minutes. Was hearing a air whistling sound. Then out of nowhere, my hood just popped. No clue how. I pulled over and pushed it down. But once I started driving again, I noticed it was bumping around a little, just a little. Anyway I was going to work and didn't really have time to look at it. I noticed my grill where my fog lights are can move up and down very slightly. Not sure if it less tight from when I took it out to change my fog lights or what. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas how this happened.

Never heard of that in the 05-09 cars. You must not have had it latched all the way. Your hood is trashed now Right?

I'm at work. I'll check that link when I get home.

But no like it didn't come up all the way. It just popped like as if you pull the latched under the steering wheel. No idea how that would work. Like enough air got under the hood that it just popped it. It didn't open all the way up though thankfully. That would of been horrible.

I think I did. I mean it was shut all the way. Is there a way to check to make sure its all the way down? It was flush with the sides. Like after I closed it and took off again, it starting bouncing again at high speed but didnt pop again. It seems it happens frequently from reading the forum post provided in the 2nd post. I'm just afraid it'll happen again. Definitely scared me lol

There were a fair number of posts from people on this forum starting with the 2005s reporting fluttering hoods, with some mentioning hoods coming unlatched.

That is so weird. I was going to start a thread about this, because it is annoying to see. Mine flutters anywhere over 70-75.
Last time I had the hood open, it looked like there were holes along the sides of the engine compartment for additional rubber bumper thingies.

What do y'all think, will they help?

Usually adjusting the bump stops corrects any flutter. Mine is solid.

Same here, make sure they are snug when the hood is closed.

Once I realized there were FOUR of them there, I was able to make it much more snug. However, there are still two slots where it looks like bumpers should go on the sides right near where the fluttering happens. I am probably going to get those too.

I'm going to try and adjust the bumpers today. I haven't got a chance to look at them yet but when you guys say adjust them, what do you mean? I'm sure I'll get an idea once I see it but in case there's something particular I need to do to adjust them. thanks for all the responses btw.

They move up and down - adjust. You can adjust them up a bit, close the hood, then see if the hood feels tighter....doesn't move as much.

Hey tu3218,

I recommend you have your vehicle diagnosed at your Ford dealer. Your Service Manager is in the best position to look into this for you. Let me know the outcome.

Seriously? Go to the dealer and spend money for something this simple to do yourself? I think not.
It is as easy as turning the bumpers clockwise or counter to adjust up or down. Trial and error takes maybe 5-10 minutes.

If it's under warranty and if one didn't mind the inconvenience of getting the car into a service department, certainly an option for those who don't want to mess with it. By doing that, it gets into the tracking system which lets Ford know they have something to fix.
