Hold out for an '05 GT - or buy an '03 Cobra?

I've been looking at the '05's for some time now. Drove a few and loved them but until now, did not have the funds in place to buy. So, now I've finally got everything in order, I can't find a car on a lot! I know - they're more scarce on dealer's lots than honesty in politics but still, I thought I could find at least ONE 5 speed GT. Color isn't an issue, I love them all.
So, in my search I came across a cherry 2003 Cobra - a torch red, 1850 mile, beautiful car that is stock other than exhaust and wheels. The owner is a detail nut and has saved every scrap of info with the car. It is just like new and has never even been wet.
Here's my dilemma... should I buy the Cobra because it is an incredible deal (less than it will cost me to buy an '05 on X-plan (assuming I can even find one) or should I just bide my time and keep looking? This Cobra is unbelievable but so are the 2005's.
I've got to decide this weekend - the Cobra won't last long at the price he's asking (he bought a house and needs the cash - soon). What would you do? I absolutely love the '05's - but this Cobra is unbelievable too.

Well Steve, what is more important to you, power or looks? Power, the 03 wins hands down, but the 05 is newer, but you'll have a tough time getting one, let alone with all the options you want.
That is a tough choice. Based on what you said though on price, I'd go with the Cobra. You can always get an 06 GT next year.

Steve,
I love my '05 GT and would favor it over the '03 Cobra, but if the '03 is as cherry as you say, then you'll have to decide. Less than 2K miles for an '03 is VERy low. I would advise driving them both, and then make up your mind. :drive:

The 05 is hard to get and now even the accessories from ford are starting to get back ordered as well .
Its a tough call you probably won't get an 05 most allocations are full into 06 for this car .
If it was me at this point I would get the cobra ,it's rare like new and has power to boot .Later if you still feel like it you can pick up an 07 later like the shelby Mustang .Now there's a car that has it all!!

Hmm...tough call. If it's that close to you, have you considered cost of insurance? I would think that the Cobra would cost a lot more.
It sounds almost silly, but every little detail counts.

If I had the same option as you, I would get the cobra without second thought.

You can always supercharge the '05 when you have the money. Looks AND power!
It's cheaper to get the '05 now, then to buy the Cobra now, and get rid of it in a year or two.
Or, you could just hold out for a GT500.
Man . . . I debated the same thing for a short time, looks won the battle quickly. The insurance rates, and added features of the '05 helped a lot too.

I think you'll regret not getting the 05 in the long run. The fact you were trying hard to save up and wait means you wanted one badly. Now you're getting impatient and this other awesome car is being served your way.
The Cobra is awesome, but you gotta go 05 or 06 from what I read.

Ya know, I'm going through the same thing. I have seen the new gt on the road and I was in love. yesturday a black 04 cobra pulled up next to my 95 cobra and wanted a challenge. I knew I was gonna lose but I gave it a shot.First of all ,the first thing I thought when I looked over was WOW , what a awsome car. Then , it blew my doors off.I have out grown the looks of the 05 and now want a 03 or 04 black cobra. In my opinion , The 03 and 04 cobra is a better looking car and is easy to squeeze 450 hp out of it with little money. GO WITH THE COBRA GO WITH THE COBRA . You wont be disapointed!!!

Well, actually the Cobra handles even better than the '05 - but, at a price. The ride is a bit more stiffer but that is to be expected because it is more race tuned. The Cobra also feels a bit heavier but at the same time, it has a more 'real' road feel to it.
The '05 does have a slightly better 'feel' to it; maybe a bit more solid but when you fire up the that Cobra Supercharged engine, you forget all about other things.
And the power?
Well, let's just say that in the Horsepower department, the Cobra has it all over the '05. But then again, it should - it's rated (and we all know that Ford underrated the Terminator Cobras) at 390 hp vs only 300 for the GT. So, in that area there is no comparison.
But the '05 is a sweet looking car with a much better interior with more room.
Then again, the '05 is not nearly as imposing to look at either.
See what I mean? BOTH of them are awesome for completely different reasons.

there are a 1000 threads on this debate in the past, my opinion is if you want the faster of the two cars go with the cobra, if you want the better car all in all go with the 05, there is not much comparison between an 05 and any older mustang when it comes to ride quality and build quality (despite the few issues that are wrong ie gas tank...)
