A close friend just got his engine back in his 69 Dart with a 340. Once he breaks it in, it will interesting to see what the track results are for his and mine.

 

I'd like to buy one and do a couple mods to it and then meet my friend at the track in his 93 Vette and dust him and his smug attitiude.

Maybe...Maybe the Base 350Z, but not the Enthusiast or Track models. No chance against one of the track. And it's not a huge power advantage either, the 350Z's are dynoing close to 300 crank hp. 350Zs with the 6spd and a good driver will turn out 13's. Even a drag would be a drivers race.

Face it, the GT is once again underpowered. I too will wait for the Cobra.

There are a ton of cars with >300hp. Fine, not for 25k, but value isnt what we are talking about in this thread. We are talking about racing. Are we not? Most of the cars you guys are looking to "smoke" are over 25k. I just think you guys are in for a suprise if you think 300hp will win you tons of races. Will you beat the avg ricer civic, WRX, 330Ci? YEAH....will you be running with STI's, TT Supras, LS1 Fbodies? NO. Not without spending a little (or a lot) of coin on mods.

 

In that case forget it, I'm getting Ford GT.

 

Buy a cobra if you want to race.

I never said the Cobra was too expensive.

 

Some lucky stang owners are going to get their feelings hurt... Yes the new GT is quite powerful, but that depends on who is next to you at the light.
Im not one for bench racing, but I don't see anything with an LS1 getting "smoked" Track edition 350s are compared to Vettes and SVT stangs in the rags so I don't see the GT handling those either.

 

In any case, it is all speculation until some posts a kill story

the filpside is, not too many will ever post a "got killed" story.

Bench racing can lead to quite a bit of interesting exaggeration... where stories of bone-stock, 12 second Mustang V6's and tall tales like that come about.

Can't wait to see real numbers on the track, let alone, generate some of my own timeslips

 

I actually really don't care about smoking anyone anymore. I'm only 25 and i think i've past that point in my life where i must floor it at every challenge. I know what my car can do, and i love the feeling of being one of the faster cars on the road. Yes yes, everynow and then, i'll floor it at a red light if some punk kid really annoys me, but i usually stop at around 65mph. its just not worth risking the $300+ tickets anymore.

As for the japanese cars (350z, g35, wrx blah blah blah) i actually really don't care if they are faster than me. Down here in florida (except miami), those cars are looked at as jokes......(just look at them, they're like toys!!). the other day when i was coming home from work, (US19- 8 lane highway) i pulled up next to an 01 cobra and a bullitt at the stop light. We were just cruising, everyone was looking at us......it was a feeling of total respect. .....then a 350z rolls up. starts revving his engine, sounded like a trumpet on steroids. we all just ignored him. the crowd around us just laughed at him.

Anyways, i'm just going to enjoy driving my mustangs.

i dont want to be a party pooper, but here in los angeles, we've had three deadly car crashes in two weeks with over 5 people dead. all a result of road racing. most of the victims were teenagers - 20 somethings.

I'd like to agree with you, but not fully. When I first got word of 300hp I too immediately thought not enough power. But apparently, 99% of the people here were satisfied with 300hp. My first concern was yours, that it seems like every other car is close to 300hp or passed. Then we got word that it was underrated, so I figure good, at least 310 to 320 hp. With this I imagine...

350Z - not a real problem (track edition or not)

STi - It's gonna be close, too soon to tell...but hopefully the 'Stang comes out on top

LS1 (GTO, camEro, Trans-Am) - See STi, what I'm really hoping for is for it to be a driver's race.

But then again, all of this is speculation. We have found out pretty much everything we can so far. We need to see these cars out on the streets and on the dyno to figure out more. Then magazine reviews, and more importantly, real world track results would help out a great deal!
