Hit a deer this morning

All the deer caught was the front driver side quarter panel. Im trying to figure out how much this may cost and if I should file a claim with the insurance company. How expensive is a front quarter panel and is it removable via bolts... it appears that way but im not sure.

Sorry to hear that! Back in 2002, we'd just bought a brand new Toyota Highlander. Two months in, on a misty, dark ride to work, a buck leaps out of a side gulley right into my path. He clipped the right front corner, buckling the hood, wasting the headlight and fender, and cracked the grille. Total cost to repair: $4,500. It took a long, long time for me to appreciate the beauty of deer leaping around all over the place. They are thick, even in the suburbs, here in Overland Park, Kansas (suburban Kansas City).

Do you have comprehensive on your policy? Hitting a deer is not covered under collision. It's been several cars since I hit one of those **** things but as I recall there's no deductible for comp. They shouldn't raise your rates for it either.

Depends on the policy. Most policies have comp deductibles, some do not, on many it's different than the collision ded.

One of my co-workers hit a deer last night with his Mercedes going about 50mph. I guess he hit it dead in the middle, not enough force to deploy the air bags, but enough to do about $11k in damage!

I have been lucky so far, knock on wood. Sorry to hear you damaged your car.

They're all over the place here as well. I see at least 2 near the road (alive) each week.

I started the claim process already.. After looking it over a little more I will need a new headlight assembly as well as the signal lamp assembly. I cant see any deeper than that. Hood appears to be untouched which is amazing. I swerved just enough to just grab the fender. BTW the deer went up the hood onto and over the windshield by the pillar and off the back near the drivers rear quarter panel. Amazingly after scouring the surface its completely unharmed. No scratches... nothing. Im lucky the deer didnt break the windshield or stamp its hooves all over the roof and hood. I guess that coat of wax I put on a couple of weeks ago paid off . For throwing a deer up over the car it really didnt even sound that dramatic. I expected the whole ordeal to be much worse than it turned out to be.

Wow. That's one of my concerns, as I leave for work at 3:00 am. I already ran over what looked like a grey wolf, but no damage.

morning ? extremley early ? it just may have been a meat popsicle you nailed. you took a pic for proof.
That happened to me one day Bambi jusmep out @ me as I was leaving the hospital and got caught under neath & opened up some so I called the police and as I was telling the officer what happened a fellow from the SPCA had already pulled up whipped out a needle and gave it a shot, lucky me that the guy following me that seen it all called his friend @ SPCA and put it down first because the officer was just pulling out his side arm , and had he fired it we would have had a boat load of paper work.
Glad your safe & damage is minimal at best.

Sorry to hear that man. I know how you feel, they are everywhere here. I nailed one about 2 weeks ago in my Exploder. Not a pretty sight, and wasn't more than 100 yards from my house when it happened.

The aftermath....

A day or two later I was coming down the same road in the Shelby, glanced over and there stood another one on the edge of the road. It was too late to stop, and all I could think was "please don't run!, please don't run!" haha. You couldn't have driven a needle up my bung hole with a sledge hammer until I got past it. I've been a bundle of nerves every time I drive through there lately.

I just missed an 8 point buck yesterday. Its scarey... BTW- the front of the cars body parts are NOT 1/4 panels. They are fenders. The rears are 1/4 panels because they are part of the body structure. Front bolt on body parts are called fenders.
