this is why i do as much work as possible myself

my girlfriend brough her car for tires to same place i did from tirerack.com ..i have a 06 so i dont have them but her 07 vert they called halfway and said "i dont know if we broke it or it was like that" to a car that still had factory rubber on it.

they replaced it AND charged her 110 bucks.which i told her dispute it with the credit card instead...but now the message center is constantly displaying TPMS fault ..

he says oh just drive it for 15-30 miles so the computer can recognize it.

i think hes a tool.

my question is..does the computer have to be reflashed for the new TPMS?
how do we get this message off?

the tpms has to be reintialized so to say, so you would have to refer to your owners manual if its in there or bring it to ford so they can reset it.

i dont know if the sensors are almost the same as far as an american car vs import car. but i work for lexus and whenever we come across a faulty tire pressure sensor and needs replacement there is a color marking or a id code printed on the sensor it self, and when we are done with the install we hook up our panasonic toughbook/snapon scanner we go in and erase the faulty id code or color stamping whichever it has and we enter in the new id code or color stamping, again whichever is on the sensor and we have a initialization button under the dash that we hold in till theres a symbol displayed on the gauge cluster and when that symbol goes out we are good to go. So, i dont know if its a similar setup like this with ford. Maybe theres extra steps the dealer needs to take that an independant shop dont know how to do.

The guy broke it, end of story.
On a Ford it will relearn after your drive for a while, or the dealership resets it with a tool they take to each wheel, and horn will honk to confirm sensor is responsive.
I bet that sensor will not respond to that tool.

 

like i said in previous post, im not sure if the setups were similar from company to company.

your right, definitly much more hi-tech. i think the fusion hybrid is going to have a feature that virtually lets is park it self into a spot, and they took that from our Lexus LS460 option!! lol.

 

my wifes 07 had a tpms fault- I also despise taking our cars anywhere...bought the little tpms reset tool off ebay for like 10~15 bucks...you cycle the key off/on like 9 times, then take the tool wheel to wheel and push the button, if sucessful, it beeps- if not, you found the 'dud'...I still havent fixed hers yet- thinking about driving to michigan and picking up a whole set from diversified for 599- tpms sensors included- as my 06 is about due for tires, and its got the dark rims- dont match the other 2 cars...swap a new one on hers to clear the code, put the others on mine...

I've heard Ford has had some issues with the strap holding the tpms sensor in place coming loose which allows the sensor to shift out of position. This shifted sensor now puts the previously balanced tire out of balance.
What likely happened when jcopin had the tires changed was an inexperienced tire changer used the bead breaker in the wrong position in relation to the sensor and broke it from the wire strap. That happened to two Expeditions we sent tires in to have flats repaired at work. One vehicle had the strap and sensor ripped from the rim. The other vehicles plastic sensor broke from the strap.

 

hmm interesting, like i stated before, i have a 05 gt and tpms was not available for that car. So, for the current vehicles, is this a standard feature or is it an optional one? i rather have regular old valve stems in my wheels instead of being annoyed with this system.

 

I believe all 07's and newer TPMS systems are mandated by law. Different car manufacturers use different approches to their systems. Ford uses a sensor strapped to the inside of the rim. GM uses a sensor attached to a metal valve stem instead of rubber. The valve stem holds the sensor in place. There are other versions used by different manufacturers.

 

I had a similar problem when I swapped my factory 16" for OEM 18" bullitt wheels. TPMS Sensor Fault. Nobody in the area could figure it out. I even brought it up to Discount Tire twice and the manager finally got the fault to clear.

He had to raise the car on a lift and spin each tire until the tool he had would recognize the sensor and honk the horn. He said some cars need the tires to spin a couple times before the sensor becomes active.

Also, with regards to the $10 tool off eBay, I'm not sure if that would work. I know when I researched the procedure it required a special electronic tool that retailed for upwards of $200. Some manufacturers use a simple ringed magnet that you can buy for $10 but I believe our cars are different.

Of course, I Am Not A Mechanic, so your mileage may vary.


Print this out and take it to the shop. They should have the tool mentioned. Make sure they put it on a lift and spin the tires before holding the tool up to them. Sensor should be mounted 180 degrees from the valve stem. Hope this helps!

I have a tire pressue indicator on after having my tires rotated by the local guy. This is on my Escape, not the Mustang. It is annoying because you have to clear it every time you drive the vehicle. They did something to fowl it up when they rotated.

 

i have a solution to the tpms problem and i performed this on my buddies lexus with the sensors. i got a peice of PVC pipe with two caps to go on each end. i took one cap on one side of the pipe and crazy glued the **** out of it. the other cap i took and drilled a hole in it to attach the sensor to it, so i through all the sensors in the peice of pipe and crazy glued the **** out of the other cap. So, meanwhile this thing has 4 sensors buried in the pipe and theres one stem of a sensor sticking out of one of the end caps on the pipe. i took my nitrofill tank and pressurized the sensor(the one that was sticking out) and set it to manufacturers psi spec, then i resetted the Tpms system. I took my scantool(snap on laptop/toughbook) and went into the tpms screen and wouldnt ya know, they are all pressurized at spec! just by airing that one sensor up and the other sensors just laying in there in the pipe, they are all accuratly reading!. i went ahead and painted the white peice of pvc pipe black to match his interior color and into the trunk compartment it went end of problem end of light. i put in regular valve stems in the tires, and he loves the tpms mod. lol

2 years have gone by and not a single light or tpms complaint. there is no risk of hitting a curb and damaging a sensor, and till this day he loves it. there goes a simple little mod that can keep your annoying light away.

I have an '07 Coupe I have a set of winter wheels and a set of summer wheels . I have the sensors in both sets and the $15 ebay tool (which is originally for an F150). If you follow the procedure that comes with the tool, it works perfectly.

 

The TPMS training tool is only $18 retail from your Ford dealer. They come with the E and F series trucks in the owners packet. The cares do not include one. Do a search here or at teamshelby.com and you will come up with the Ford part number. I got mine for about $14 from TeamFord in LasVegas. And yes, it works great. Allows you to train the sensors to your car. Takes all of about 5 minutes the first time. 2 after that and your TPMS actually works for its intended purpose...alerting you to a low tire.

 

All I can say is I am tired of the Government trying to save us from ourselves.Every stupid law they pass like this just ends up costing us more money.Whats next car won't start because the wiper blades are worn or you get a ticket because your car is lowered? Like toilets that take three flushes to get the log rolling, some water saver.
