By the way Tommy - don't want to derail the thread but - looking at your sig - did you install your Eibach prokit yourself? Did you do an alignment and camber plates?...

Dunno what to say, mine reads anywhere from 300-325 when I turn it on and reset everything at fill ups. I think it is taking into account your average so far in that estimation.

From the owner's manual:

Distance to empty (DTE)
Selecting this function from the INFO menu estimates approximately
how far you can drive with the fuel remaining in your tank under normal
driving conditions. Remember to turn the ignition OFF when refueling to
allow this feature to correctly detect the added fuel.

and...

DTE is calculated using a running average fuel economy, which is based
on your recent driving history of 500 miles (800 km). This value is not
the same as the average fuel economy display. The running average fuel
economy is reinitialized to a factory default value if the battery is
disconnected.

Hope the info helps.

One editorial comment though - I'm sure the people around you at the gas station would appreciate if you don't fill up with the car on. I don't know about them, but I know I like avoiding explosions.

The Distance To Empty is automatically reset. I reset the Average MPG, Average MPH, and my Trip Odometer at every fill up.

My understanding is that the system auto-resets when fuel is added while the car is turned off. If the car isn't off, the reset won't happen. I don't know how to get it to auto-reset at this point unless you wait until the next fillup and do it their way.

The plus side is that everyone at the station will get to hear that great sound of a 2005 Mustang GT firing up!

Why would you leave your car running as you fill it with gas?

Simple version of what was stated above:

Distance to Empty is calculated on Average MPG for the last 500 miles.

If you drive it in the city for a good portion of those 500 miles your DTE will be lower, if it's all highway it will be higher. Also you might want to make sure you're getting a full tank of gas, some people have had a problem filling up. It's a 16 gallon tank, so an average "fill-up" should be around 10-12 gallons.
