Hi everyone, I've been seeing some Stangs on the way to and from work that puzzle me. I'd like to know what they are. These cars don't have any fog lights, no GT marker on the sides or back, have black plastic along the bottom sides of the car (instead of painted the same color as the car), but **DO** have the dual exhaust. If they're not GT's and not V6's, so what are they?

I know it's a dumb question, but I had to ask anyway!

Probably a V6 with a dual exhaust setup.

Are there indentions in the rear bumper for the pipes? Or are they completely under the bumper.

Are they Saleens?

though a black rocker panel would surely be a V6.

Definitely NOT Saleens. I would know those anywhere. The body is exactly what a V6 would look like but I see the dual exhaust. I'll have to look for the indentations, good idea.

Only if they are equipped with blue flames and pin stripes on the front fenders!

Last summer, I was waiting in a Costco parking lot (in my truck) in front of what appeared to be an '05 Mustang GT. I assumed it to be a GT only by the distinct fogs. The owner appeared, got in the car and started it up. The exhaust note sounded a bit weak and very different from my own GT and I was thinking "is that what it sounds like on the outside...? Nahhhhh, COULDN'T possibly...could it?". As the guy backs out of the parking place, I notice the car has the pony badge on the side then finally notice a dual-exhaust setup (although not sure if it was even functional) and no GT badge on the back. Ah-hah...a V6 wannabe GT!

Also;
WTF is going on with these odd moldings on the doors I keep seeing? Its along the ridge on the door longways.
I know the Hertz mustangs have them, but today I saw a yellow one just like Eleanor with it.

WTH is it?

My understanding is that if the Mustang is ordered through the dealership fleet services manager that the door moulding is an option. I have seen a few on dealer lots with the molding in place.

Door molding...yuck. My Fox body stangs had that, and I hated it.

Also, my roommate had a 00 V6 stang with dual exhaust...he didn't put it on, and don't ask me why someone would...I can't imagine you gaining any HP unless it was FULL dual exhaust.

I guess I need to make another Idiot's guide - this one for indentifying Mustangs!!

i once saw a riced out v6 99-04 model tryin to act like a cobra. i think it had more badges and emblems then HP. it was pretty funny when i pulled up next to him... suddenly his cell phone rang. HA

theres also a guy by me with a wanna be cobra. all the badges and kit to make it look like it minus the wheels. cant wait to see him and ask him how he got his cobra before there even in production! should be hillarious! hhaah

its amazing what people think they can do, like the real car lovers dont know what they really have :/

Yeah, why would anyone want to mod a V6 exhaust? Maybe some people like the appearance but can't afford a GT? Also, nevermind HP, but it does sound a lot better.

Any good shop trims the bumper cover for the second exhaust pipe when they put it on the V6.

I just got back from the dealer after I dropped off my car for the "low fuel - data file error" problem and looked around. After seeing the other cars there I'm sure what I was seeing was a basic V6 with dual exhaust.
Thanks for the help!
