Has anyone run into legal issues with aftermarket HID's

I am really looking forward to adding HID's to my stang, but I have come across a few articles that state they are illegal. My biggest concern is not from the police but from state inspection. Has anyone run into any issues with aftermarket HID's?

You're not adding the Saleens right? It's hard to drive at night with all the newer audis, acuras with the hids, bmws. All the rich people have em. If you wanna add then just add. Who cares about the police. FT. I don't think it would be a good idea for the fogs, don't center light, just kinda dispurse. And also, fogs and headlights won't match color if you leave one unchanged. Isn't regular inspection just turning your lights on just to see if they work? With all the new cars out, HIDS are so common.

What is this state inspection that people keep speaking about? Beside the smoke check what does the state check? I live in california and i have never heard of a state inspection.

Just make sure you retain high/low beam function and you should be fine.
