I test drove the Gt vert today. I've had three mustang GTs in a row (1987, 1992, and 2002) and this vert handles better than all of them, is much tighter than the last generation convertible, and overall is a very nice package. First, a few nits. The car does have more wind noise than the coupe (obviously) but I was really surprised at how much you could hear just sitting in the car with the motor off. I guess that's the price you pay for the convenience and fun of a drop top. And speaking of the top, despite numerous reports and tests calling it "fabric", it's really just the same plain old, cheap looking vinyl that has been on regular GT verts for all the preceeding years. I was hoping that it would be the much better looking CLOTH material used on the last-gen Cobra convertible. Oh well. I've hear rumors that it will change to cloth in the future but I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

As for handling, the car is tight and satisfying. It had a couple of squeaks over bumps, but nothing major and definitely no noticeable cowl shake. Apart from the aforementioned wind noise, this vert felt like it handled better than my 2002 GT coupe.

Price: This was a fully loaded car (IUP, ICAP, Shaker 1000, side bags, 18" wheels) and was a bit over $34K. My wife said it was a lot of money and that I should just "upgrade" to a BMW convert. I told her that a comparable BMW 330Cic would be 50K and that I thought the Mustang was fairly priced. I would substitute the shaker 500 for the shaker 1000 and skip the 18s in favor of bullits to lower the price a bit.

One final note, when you lower the top it automatically drops the windows. The rear windows can only be lowered from a switch on the driver's door, and there's only one switch for both rear quarter windows. They both lower together when the button is pressed or when the top is lowered by the windshield header-mounted control. And as far as the vinyl boot is concerned, I would skip that as an option too. The tops looks good when down without the boot (see pics) and it's a lot more convenient to drop the top and go.

Good luck to everyone who buys one....you'll love it! I'm going to order mine in Jan 2006. Hopefully they'll have the fan blade rims by then, and a cloth top, heated seats and satellite radio. If any of you know if my "wish list" is coming for 2006, please let me know. Enjoy the pics!

I'm trying! I've got 11 great pics. I tried posting them in hi and low res format and I keep getting a "This page can not be displayed" error. I've browsed to them on my desk top and clicked the Add this Attachment button but it won't work. I also searched the help topics to no avail. Help!

Well, I was wrong on the wheels, I just took a look at the window sticker pic and they're the 17 inch upgrade. Sorry!

As for the pics, I checked the size and in low res they're about 150K each. Still can't post them.

I think you're limited to 200k per post so if they are 150k you need to make them 11 seperate posts.

Well, I've tried everything and I can't post the pics, sorry about that. I've resized several times using Microsoft photoeditor and saved as jpeg at 90K each and I still get an error back.

I'm going to the section that says file attachments, browsing to the 90K jpeg image on my desktop, clicking open, then once the path is in the box to the left of browse I click "add this attachment". Then I get the internet connections error page. If anyone knows what the h*** I'm doing wrong, please let me know because now I'm getting really aggravated. I'm really not a dummy!

Anyway, I really want to post the pics because this is a pretty one: it's a silver vert, black top, red interior. Not my favorite, but it is a sharp combo.

A mustang source member was nice enough to host the pics for me here:

http://www.theneals.net/05vert

They're very grainy because I cut the size down significantly but you can see the color combo, you can read the window sticker, and see some of the details I described.

Thank you very much for the link. Very nice car. I was able to see some pics a different angles like how the top folds down behind the rear seat and along the header. I haven't been able to get close enough to a vert to see for myself.

Thanks again.
