Does anybody know the 'for sure' answer to the correct oil filter size for the GT? It looks like a Fram "2" (Motorcraft 820) from peering down at it from above with the hood open.

I'm getting close to my 1st change I always change out factory oil at 1000 miles.

Also: got some neat new 0w40 Mobil 1 which I think will be great for this application.

Being that it uses the Mach short block, I would imagine it would be the same part.

if its like any of the last years gt's its going to be a PH2 in a fram... its the short one that ford uses on their v8's. If it happens to be the longer one, its a PH8, but i would assume itd be the same as last years gt.

That would be great, then I would not have to remember a new number. My T-Bird already uses that one.

did they relocate the filter from where it was on the '98? it was the biggest PITA changing oil, because it would run down the steering arm putting a nice coat on the boot. I always had to make sure to wash the heck out of the under carriage after an oil change just to keep it from accumulating sludge. good times.
