GT-500 given to Price is Right winner

Tonight on Price is Right, the final showcase included a Black GT-500. The 20 something girl won a Black GT-500 with White stripes. The 20 something boyfriend/significant other was leaping for joy. I hope they get driving lessons.

I happened to see her win that. The old lady next to her should be kicked in the crotch for bidding $28k on her showcase when she had a $50k+ boat in it.

As soon as the announcer said retro I knew it would be a mustang...I certainly wasn't expecting the GT500 though. Must be nice!

That's the real kicker - most folks who win high-dollar cars & boats don't get to keep them just because of the tax bill. There was an article years ago in Car&Driver about a guy who won an expensive Italian sportscar and what happened afterwards. As I recall, after it was all said and done, he pocketed about 10K - not chump change, but not the 70K sportscar he thought he won.

Most people just take the cash on stuff like that. The cars are there, and you can have it if you want to pay the taxes. But they also give you the option for the cash value.

Yall keep talking bout the Prius' and stuff if you want to see something funny on a Prius, buy/rent the "Spark of Insanity" by Juff Dunham. His a ventriloquist and talks about owning one and all his puppets make fun of him for it. Its really funny if you haven't seen it.

I've always wondered if you could get around the tax liability by playing for the privilige to buy the car at a reduced price? I guess it would probably be a moot point since the IRS would probably say the cash value of the prize would be worth the difference between what you won and what you paid for the car.

...Come on FairTax in my lifetime...

Yah big tax pay before you take my Grandmother won a car & stuff on there and it had to be paid before anything could go. I hope that a young couple like that don not become a statistical fatel car crash, worse case theres a fight over it.
