Gouging.
You know, I am a pretty laid back guy. But these "dealer siphon" posts about 'rip offs' for dealers not taking XPlans and asking 2000 over MSRP? They oughtta stop. They're in the way of the good topics.
That is not to say that those who had a deal made, THEN get slapped with one of those adjustments aren't entitled to be mad. They are. They should sue or something. No, I'm talking about the ones that go in, haven't ordred, just want whatever's on the lot, and complain bout the Market Adjustment and/or non-Xplan pricing.
So you don't get what you want. Boo freakin' hoo. Get over it. You COULD be on a respirator and intubated, ya know. Or be homeless. Or have three buttocks. It's a Mustang, true, but it's JUST a car. Life will go on. (And yet, my thirst for the Mustang is not slaked by such words from myself... Hold on Mikey! Hold on!!!)
And the dealer? That dealer could care less what you think about their pricing. Or their cold shoulders. Ford ESPECIALLY doesn't care. Ford makes the same money. The dealer gets a sale for whatever they can get. You won't be back for service, will you? You'll go to the nearer one, on average. So except for the potential sale, there's nothing more in it. So they don't have to be nice. The dealer is selling a commodity. Like Oil, or Gold. Prices fluctuate as demand is exceeded by surplus or vice versa. Unless there is a direct correlation to the 'Market Adjustment' and many lost sales for Ford and/or the particular dealer(s), it will never change. There isn't, so it won't.
So currently, we have shortage of 05 Mustangs on lots. Naturally, the demand exceeds supply, and when that happens, prices go up over MSRP. Those who simply cannot wait will not mind it. These are the ones who know what they want, and will pay to get it. When demand is less than supply, we get rebates. Or deals. Those who are patient will be rewarded, naturally.
If you are going to say something along the lines of "Ill show them! I'll WAIT. Then I'll get a better deal! And I won't buy from them either!" So what? There are many other fish. You're just one. So you got away. They'll hook someone else. Do you really think that your being mad and spewing venom about it is really going to cost them any sales, overall? Really? Wow, you must be Oprah, the Great and Powerful.
So if you got a "dealer siphon" story? Please. Don't. We Know. Yes it's dumb of those who do pay that Market Adjustment stuff. But the dealer's doing what's naturally available. Don't crucify the dealer for doing what they can to make more money and stay alive. We need them, you know. If you can't get it now, be patient. Besides, just think of the extra 2 grand as avoidance of interest rates for those who can pay cash up front. Didn't think about that did ya? DID YA???
Yeah, I thought not...
I'd like to focus on the positives, like how bad buttocks the car is. Even though I have yet to get one, I love readin' that. And tellin' what I can when I can. Like I will after this Saturday when the drive's in Houston! 2:30p, here I come, please don't rain!
/I would make people pay a 'market adjustment' for my services if there wasn't enough MikeyB! to go around.
//that sounds vaguely disgustin', don't it?

I know that if my dealer puts a 'market adjustment' on my car I'll walk. I only pre-ordered to get the specifics I wanted, but with this car I'll take pretty much anything, so I'd have no problem waiting to buy one.
.. And I heard there was plenty MikeyB to go around

NEW RULE
NOBODY should ever pay more than 500 dollars over invoice--PERIOD. I personally have never paid more than invoice on my mustang purchases.
Mustang resale value is poor, unless it is a SVT, or other "special edition" model. I am disgusted with how dealerships are trying to mark-up GTs and V6s. and there are stupid people out there that will give them what the dealer asks. :nono: Forget all the A through X plans, just get it at invoice, unless you can get it cheaper.

Greed is a terrible thing to concentrate on. The cost over the long run on bad publicity will more than exceed the few thousand gourging going on. Internet has changed the world, and most dealerships, not all, but most are still living in the past thinking the buyer is uneducated.
Money is a big motivator. If I couldn't cough up the 25K+ my GT is costing me, I would be driving a Neon SRT-4, or a Mini Cooper S 'vert., and still wishing for a Stang.
If I had 50K to spend, I MIGHT get a new 'Vette, with 400hp, but then again, that's a lot more to spend for two less seats and 100hp.
Don't hate the guys who are paying 30K for the new Stangs, they are the first ones to sell a year from now, when you might get a used GT for 15-17K. That might be worth it.

Hey, Its their money. I just can't believe someone would do it just to say they have one. Like the dealer told me(we were discussing it, salesmen knew I wasn't buying that day) and asked him about it, said they do it because they can, and sure enough before I left that day, there were at least 3 people drooling about bringing it home.He told me the people who pay those prices are generally just buying them as toys any way and don't care the price.I have noticed, the v6 mustangs I see have not been jacked up pricewise. I do not agree with the "rare car" label but hey!
Im just hoping that it doesn't set the tone for the time to come. If they stay this way, well I am Super Screwed and will have to drive a g6 or something around.
I would of course be perfectly pleased to find a "gently used" mustang somewhere. I am no longer going insane about having one TODAY! That has changed to when the time is right, she will come home. Right now I am just feeling fortunate I have a decent looking car to drive.

That's a good approach but many dealers won't sell it for under msrp right now. Suppy and demand man...
Wait a few months and it shouldn't be as hard. It no issue for me because I will be getting my stang around $1000 below invoice with A or Z Plan.
I liked your post Mikey, but yeah it is a forum, here for everyone to voice their opinion.
Perhaps a better way than getting on a soap-box would be to request a section devoted to dealer flames. Put them all near each other and you can very simply avoid it, just a thought.
But it was a good post and I enjoyed your "rant". But I'm not trying to buy an '05 yet as the supply/demand is working too much in Ford's favor for me right now. So I can't really cry about a dealer hittin me without lube either.

It's all Supply V.S. Demand :stubborn: The buyer holds the cards.

Does anyone wonder WTF Ford was thinking? They bring out the hottest car ever to hit a lot and do not anticipate that everyone with half a brain would be dying to get their hands on one?
Did they honestly think this lovely creature was going to be like most other cars? Ten rows of them sitting on the lots unsold? I think they didn't anticipate the demand for it and now some of us are paying the price for it. I really worry that its never going to be go to the dealer, pick from one of fifty and drive home in it.
What would the odds be to open up one of their dead assembly lines should they have one, and build twice as many?
