Got rear ended twice in two weeks.... need new bumper, help
So, 3 weeks ago my rear bumper got scraped by an old woman who wasn't paying attention.. luckily there was no real damage and it all buffed out.
Tonight I friggin got backed into in a completely empty parking lot by some woman in a SUV not paying attention. It's very minor damage, some more scratches and the tiniest little dent you can only see in certain lighting, but I want to order a new rear bumper cover as I am a perfectionist with my cars.
The question is, could someone with very little mechanical knowledge put this on himself, or is it worth paying a body shop some likely outrageous fee? I was under the car and it doesn't look bad but I am quite paranoid.
I hate spending more money and would love to do it myself if I could, but im unsure. How long of a job should it take if I approach a body shop (or do it myself I suppose).

I see some on ebay but im a bit dubious.
Im just planning on their insurance not doing jack as insurance companies are bull****.

yes it is. u can call roush or saleen and see if they have any takeoff parts for the rear bumper. and yes you can do it yourself. i had my entire front bumper off the car. it was held in with 6 screws and a few clips.

I would also prefer not to have this on carfax because of a bumper cover.

Also do you have mostly V6 or GT? Im probably just looking for another V6 bumper but a gt might be nice to get duals for appearence in the future.
Brand new bumper cover from Ford is $215.85. (an old man put a hole in mine last week
) But then you have to add in prep and paint. Probably another $250-$500 depending on where you live.
Installation wouldn't be that hard. I just installed a Roush front cover. It was pretty easy and I'm an idiot.

Ah man sorry to hear about that
What is with **** people and backing into these cars.
Ive never had a single ding on another car in my entire life, and this one hit 2x in 3 weeks! THANKFULLY there's been very little actual damage.

Hey, easy on insurance companies. However, the truth is that if there's that little damage they'd probably write it for repair, not replacement. I understand the carfax thing though.

Your car was in mint condition when you bought it, was'nt it?? Why would you settle for something less now?? Same thing happened to me, here in Canada. Can't see it being that much of a difference in the U.S. My local City plow; plowed rocks all over my truck (Ranger) this winter. Besides giving me really bad attitude, they demanded not to fix anything; So, I contacted my own insurance company. Here's what they said:Let us fix it; it goes through your plpd. That's why you pay insurance. Your insurance premiums do not go up (that's what I was afraid of), and we (our lawyers) will, in turn, go after them. That's exactly what happened, and now my truck looks BETTER than new. Also, something to think about.........my local Ford bodyman (foreman) informs me that once you take off the original factory paint on these new plastic bumpers, they crack very easily. Give YOUR insurance company a call. Good luck with your car Jeff05GT! Us perfectionist are a picky bunch!
Jeff,
You should be able to change the bumper cover yourself very easily. Just be careful not to scratch the factory paint. Consider using the green masking tape around areas that could get scratched.
