Good deal?

I got a call earlier today fm. a family aqquaintance at an Atl. area dealership. So, you ask? I had called him a mo. ago to ask about the chance of ordering a GT with x-plan. Today he called and said "I've got your car...black, 5 speed, IUP, etc. Come get it tomorrow for $1k under MSRP". Sounds good, no? Here's the rub: car has 9900 mi., AND the VIN plate on the dash is off by one digit. Car was allegedly ordered for a A plan customer. Was it a demo, or a buy back? I dunno. They do say they can sell it as a NEW car. What do you guys think??

Only 1k under MSRP??? With 10k miles on it, it's no longer time to negotiate from MSRP, should be more like negotiating over '04 values. (no flames please... only making a point) Besides, since I don't think it can be sold as new, your warranty is already nearly a third used up. Order, the waits are getting shorter, or find a new one on a lot unless you want a used car. Reardless of whether you're the first one to title it or not, it's still used in my book. Besides, that VIN issue would have me worried.

At that price? No way, people are paying less than that for a brand new car with less that 20 miles

That is exactly what I thought. 'Twould seem they are trying to "get over" on moi. I plan to ck. it out solely because he promised a test drive.

Yeah, go test it. But tell them the price has got to go. Ask about the warranty and PM Karpro about this. I'm sure he would set you in the right direction.

More likely it was a demo passed around and beat on by all the guys at the dealership or a lemon law buyback they are fudging the paperwork on. I would steer clear unless you know this guy VERY well and trust him without question.

You must be kidding right? 9,900 miles and only a $1,000 off. Sorry, I would demote him to rotten salesman. Those used miles were the iceing on cake. I would not even think of talking to that guy again. If you bought it back to for a trade in it would be $8,000 off of MSRP. Just my $.02

Even if it was only used by the dealer's grandmother who drove it carefully and garaged it every night, with 9900 miles it is a used car even if they can legally still sell it as new.

If GT's in your area are selling for $5000 over MSRP, this might be a deal to consider, if it is the car you want really want and you can't wait. Some will tell you not to pay more than $xx,xxx but it all depends on your local market. I would still steer you towards waiting (which I normally wouldn't do). That is definitely excessive miles for a demo. If it is being sold as new, it has not been titled. If you decide to purchase, ask to see the MSO, and I would expect AT LEAST X-Plan. Good luck...

If the car had four or five hundred miles on it might be worth considering if the buyer is in need or in a hurry to buy. Otherwise the deal is a ripoff.
I'll am willing to bet $100 we will be exchanging posts about discounts on GTs within 6 months. The loser gives a $100 donation to TMS. Any takers?
BTW, here in Florida the V6s are being "advertised" in newspapers for $1,800 off their $19,750 MSRP. I assume the V6s listing for $23K will have an even larger discount.

UPDATE: The car in question sold for $1K off sticker to a Delta employee today at 1700 or so. I didn't even get a test drive. I had really just wanted to SEE this car, and to tell them all they are borderline insane! But, they're not, as evidenced by the fact that they found a chump--ahem, customer I mean. BTW, they actually put in a correct, matching VIN plate before delivery. I sure would like to know the story behind this particular GT.
P.S. I know some are curious about the dealer: west side of town (ATL), just outside 285, north of I-20.

I ordered my car southside atlanta at xplan pricing. Just order you car... some Atlanta dealers are willing to make a deal. Mine will be here next week with hopefully less than 9 miles, not 9900
