Going Turbo!

So after a hard think on what I really want out of my car, I've decided. I'm going turbo. Im getting the Hellion single turbo kit from hellion with the 61mm on 10lbs. It should put me around 500 so I'll stay safe on that. It's not a daily driver and rain hasn't seen it. I wanna track the car for a while to see what I can get out of it but other than that it will be put up. Good idea? Or bad idea?

Tell us more about your steed, and the thought process that moved you towards turbocharging. Any mods up to this point? Or are you starting from stock?

Well I was wanting to go with a super charger and made a thread about it and was set on it. Then I got to thinking, the only reason I wanted a supercharger and not a turbo was the turbo lag. And if anybody has ever rode in a big turbo car of any kind, it's one hell of a ride! And that turbo lag is all you can remember blowing your mind! I also didn't want one because I was goin to track the car more than I would street it.
Well I had a long thought process about that, and decided I would only track the car a few times then be done with it. And even if I did, all the SUPERBAD mustangs at the track have turbos. The sct foxbody runs 6's all day, the hellion car runs 7's all day, so why would they have a turbo unless it was better??
Plus ME MYSELF and I control how much power the car makes, no limitations what so ever to an extent so why would I limit my power sources. In conclusion turbo cars are really fun, down the road I will sell the 61mm for 500 and swap it for a 76mm ball bearing to make big power when I forge the internals. Shew hope to enjoyed reading it! Oh and yes, my internals are stock. I'm making good power now for a cammed 3v with CAI, pulleys and exhaust. 326RWHP! So I have a good starting point.

What's the difference between turbo an SC for a car like the mustang? It seems like just about all mustangs that aren't NA, are supercharged. Why is that? I feel like a lot of other sport cars are turbo. Why is a supercharger more popular for the mustang, but seems you can get more power from a turbo. Just curious as I've never known this.

Turbos take up more space with all the exhaust and intercooler piping, they're usually more powerful cause people install bigger ones, put a kb supercharger on it will be close to doing wheelies and I love the sound of that whine!

I think at the track, turbos have the advantage- boost is boost, but blowers cost more, weigh more, draw more power...but a positive blower IMO on the street would be more everyday 'seat of the pants' power- flatout I think the turbos would make more with less weight, but part throttle, a positive blower would give instant boost...
I saw a fairly 'stock looking' fox mustang at the track quietly roll up to the line, run a low 11...the shocking part though was 147mph! twin turbos under a stock hood, quiet mufflers, but WOW...think had to be making near 1000 horse. if he'd have had a lot more tire, could only imagine how quick it woulda been. those turbos can make absolutely insane power for sure.

graham1992- what was your misfire issue last week? guessing nothing too severe if youre getting ready to put a hair dryer on it

Op congrats on deciding to go turbo. Have you already ordered the Hellion kit? If not give these guys http://www.sandhperformance.com/?page_id=21 a call. Their kit is similar, I think it's a better overall kit but costs less and I think the Comp is a better turbo. They have great customer service and can meet all your needs. I am not connected to them, just a great couple of guys.

Well see I haven't ordered it yet. I'm now adding up all the pricing and stuff. Price plus shipping is gonna be a lil over 7300 but install and Dyno is what I'm waiting on. I wanna say right at 8000 for everything!
Oh and my misfire issue? It's still happening very much.. The speed shop will fix that as well. And finally, the only reason I didn't order from AM or any other site is that it will take 2 weeks alone just to hit his desk then 2 weeks to get here. And I couldn't customize my kit from am with a ball beating for the turbo. Plus Jeff at Hellion price matched me over the phone to American muscles pricing with low shipping rates!!

I'm telling you give S&H a call, you will not regret it.

What's the reliability on those turbos and the kit? I don't want a cheap kit because you get what you pay for but if it's good then I might look into it.

Comp turbos are one of the best turbos available http://www.compturbo.com/ . I am running a pair of their CT3 6062 Billet Triple Ceramic Bearing Oil-Less turbos and they are great. The S&H kit is a great quality kit with top notch parts and is a complete kit, fuel pump requirements and everything. The only thing they don't supply is a tune but I would never use a mail order universal tune for a turbo setup anyway. They will also modify the basic kit for whatever you want.

So if I told them what I would want out of the car they would "mold" it to my expectations persay?
