Getting Bored Waiting for Parts
Getting Bored Waiting for Parts
Seems like I've been waiting forever for three sets of parts to become available. I ordered a bunch of underhood dressup caps and things from Shelby Auto back in December and I'm waiting for them to become available. I keep asking CDC about their dead pedal that matches the GT 500 pedal covers, and they keep saying it is coming soon. I'm also hoping Midwest Autogear is going to mold some strut tower covers to clear my strut tower brace. That should also be available soon. It all depends on what you mean by soon.
Maybe I'll be OK. Tomorrow is forecast to be mostly sunny with temps near or a little above 70. Time to drop the top and listen to those FRPP axlebacks.

Silverhorse was taking to long to produce there shifter bezel. So i went with the Steeda bezel (no logo). I just got it yesterday, nice piece, now i have to find the time to install it. I like Steeda's, the ends are curved just a tad, so there should be no gaps on the corners.
Chuck, the underhood dress-ups are from Shelby Autos Inc. They are billet caps for the radiator, power steering, washer fluid, brake fluid, and one or two more I can't remember. They look nice in the pictures because they all match and have the function engraved in red or yellow letters. But...they are taking forever to get from whoever is making them to Shelby.
It's been like this for a number of S197 aftermarket products. Don't know why since there is a good market out there waiting.

This is why we're bringing more in-house, so that we won't be beholden to others to get some of our work done. I just refused the bezels that came back yesterday, didn't like how the finish came out. If you want it "now" we can just ship you some unfinished parts like everyone else does and pocket the savings - but if you want our quality and finishes, sometimes it takes a while... not to mention the louvers really have been a big hit, causing us to shift a lot of our efforts to getting people taken care of on them.
Not trying to be defensive here - everyone's welcome to shop who's got what they want in stock right now - but if we say it's coming it is - and I think of any manufacturer out there, we try and stay in touch the most to let everyone know what's going on, what (if anything) is causing the delays, etc... as always, good things come to those who wait
Our new programmer / machinist starts April 2, and he already has drawings in the works for some of our upcoming products. I'm just as disappointed as the rest of you sometimes about the progress, hence we're spending more money (as usual) to step up to the plate with what we need to do it right.
The reason everyone is seeing the delays in a bunch of products (not just ours) - the economy is booming along (no matter what they say on CNN), and everyone is currently pretty busy. Job shops aren't hungry for work, getting things done when unemployment is hovering around 4% (which some would consider full employment) is about impossible, and with all the manufacturing that left the US, what's left is busy re-tooling and modernizing to stay ahead of a growing demand that is just swamping their current capacity. I know it has been affecting us for some time, hence why we're having to upgrade our own capabilities rather than waiting on others to do it...

I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't love every minute of it! These are just growing pains, as we get through them, it will only get better and better for everyone. Our new software from Delcam / FeatureCAM really takes it up a level - we can go from solid computer model directly to the machine now, eliminating 70% of the time we were spending hand-coding the machines prior to it. Now we just need to have time to sit down and learn to use all of its capabilities!!
Well, that and get our new machinist on board to get rolling with it...
