Gasoline Brand Preference - Costco? Chevron?
Gasoline Brand Preference - Costco? Chevron?
What does everyone think of different gasoline brands? Do you only fill at Chevron because of Techron? Do you only fill at Texaco or Shell because of their additives?
How is the gas at Costco or even Safeway for that matter?

I my area Shell is available.
Chevron is listed. The 87 octane is the important one. If you tune for 93 octance most of the gas has the right additives. A company gets the top tier rating only if all the grades have the right stuff.

I generally go to Chevron, maybe once in a while to Shell or 76.
My wife and I also use Safeway when we are near one of their service station stores. We haven't noticed anything different in performance using Safeway gas. Oh, and the discount is a huge help. Especially when we fill up the F-250 with diesel.
The one station we will not fill our personal vehicles at is AM/PM. They're super cheap, but probably cos their gas is low quality. I only fill up rental cars there.

I'm a Shell v-power user. The car just seems to run better with it. Before I switched over to a bamachips tune I had a canned C&L tune and my car would ping with anything other than Shell. Now I'm hooked on it.
Down here in Florida we have RaceTrak. I use them most of the time as they are the cheapest and have never had a problem with quality. I went up to one of the guys filling the underground tanks and asked where race trak gets there gas and he told me they bought from several different refinerys such as shell, chevron, texaco. He said they bought from who ever was the cheapest.
Chevron was the first gasoline to meet the standard and be rated top tier. They also have Techron which keeps the injectors clean, so Chevron is my first choice. Sadly, Hurricane Dennis took out the only Chevron station in a 20 mile radius from my home last year, so now I just use the Shell station down the street. The problem with bargain gas is you never know where they are getting it from. It might be Shell one week, and Contaminated Gas Special the next.
Only BP for me as well. Just filled up last evening, and it was $2.85 a gallon. The cheapest its been around my area in over a month. Glad I went out for a drive instead of using the station near my folks house, which was .15 cents more.
So, what's everyone's take on this "Top Tier" gasoline thing? Is it for real, or is it just something concocted by those four big car makers to get in league with the biggest gas companies and steer business to the people they like?
Not trying to sound cynical, so if anyone has input on this, I'm very open to advice. Just wondering is all. I'd like to make sure to put the best gas in both my cars, and if that's not BP, the sooner I know, the better.

We had a huge problem last summer with people's cars running out of gas because the extra sulfur was messing with the gauges. Was it nationwide, I don't remember as I had no problems. I have exclusively bought from a Kroger station, since the guy who runs it uses it in his racecars. On the rare occasion I need race fuel for something, there's an individual I go to see.
Mobil 91 octane!
