GAS TANK
#21
It happened to me for the first time the other day (this was the third time I filled her up... no problems the first two times). The tank was empty, and as soon as I started pumping, it would flip off. I pushed it in all the way, and then pulled it out about an inch, and seemed to work. I'll try the 180 degree thing if it happens again.

Funny, there are at least 2 other threads running on this problem. My girl inhaled the gas with not so much as even a burp. Maybe these filler necks cause certain nozzles to be extra sensative??
Definitely seems to be an evolving problem.

You may want to try in addition to pulling the nozzle out a little also pushing down on the handle, forcing the nozzlze to the top - this works on my Taurus

Come on guys. Do you think I do not know how to fill a tank. Seems Ford has an engineering problem in this area. I wanted to see if others had this same problem.
Thanks

Take a 2 litre pop bottle and fill it with water. Now poor the water out into a bucket. No problem right. The water comes out pretty fast.
Now fill the bottle again. Now try pouring the water from the 2 litre bottle into another 2 litre bottle but have both openings pushed against each other. You will find the water pours very slow, or stops completely. Why...because, as the water fills the bottle the air in the bottle (being filled) has no where to go. The flow of the water from the top bottle prevents the air from escaping.
So as I said before. When you stick the nozel all the way in the hole (don't have a dirty mind), you have either completely blocked the air flow (which causes the pump to turn off because the backpressure causes the check valve to close) or have a little bit of air coming out causing it to flow slow.
The other thing is it could be the pump. Several gas stations I have gone to have very slow pumps so stop blaming your car.

I suggest only those who have taken delivery of their Mustangs and have actually put fuel in them reply.

I worked at a gas station for many years. I understand why the problem occurs and how to fix it, yet you don't want me to add my 2 cents :nono:
Don't worry, I will let you know how it goes when I get mine in a few weeks and if it is different than the 26 cars I have previously owned.
